Joint team continues inspection of proposed cantonment sites Giving continuity to the inspection of the proposed cantonment sites, a joint inspection team comprising of the United Nations and representatives of the government and the CPN (Maoist) visited proposed cantonment site in Palpa district today. The team inspected the cantonment site at Humin area of Palpa district. The team is also inspecting proposed cantonment site in Rolpa as well. The team was also scheduled to inspect the proposed cantonment sites of Kailali and Surkhet districts, but this has been postponed for Tuesday due to time constraint. After inspecting the cantonment site in Rolpa, the joint team will leave for Nepalgunj. According to reports, UN security expert Jan Erik Wilhemson, a conflict expert of UN team, Minister for Labour and Transport Management and member of the government talks team Ramesh Lekhak, officials at the Home and Defense ministries, Nepal Police Force, Armed Police Force, Nepali Army and Maoist Deputy Commanders are participating in the joint inspection team. Prior to this, the team had inspected the Maoist-proposed cantonment sites in Illam’s Kamaljhoda at Chulachuli VDC, Kamidanda of Kavre district and Sankatar of Dudhauli VDC in Sindhuli. Following the decision to keep the PLA first division at Kamaljhoda region at Chulachuli VDC in southern Ilam, the CPN-M has mobilised its cadres for camp building from yesterday. The cadres began work immediately after the tripartite team approved the site as one of the main cantonments. As per the agreement between the seven-party alliance and the Maoists, there will be seven main cantonments along with 21 tributary cantonments where the PLA members will be kept along with their weapons under close monitoring of the UN. The cantonments have been proposed in Ilam, Palpa, Kavre, Sindhuli, Surkhet, Rolpa and Kailali districts. nepalnews.com pb Nov 13 06
