3 year old abducted boy freed Published on: April 5, 2000

Janakpurdham, April 5: A 3-year-old boy abducted from his home here 4 five days ago returned home safely Tuesday while police have arrested his two abductors..

The boy, Puspa Yadav, is reported to have been freed from the abductors by two staffers of Ekta Bus, Keshar Shah and Manoj Kumar Chaudhari, at Madar Bus Park, which led to the arrest of the abductors Manoj Kumar Yadav of Chandra Udayapur   VDC, Siraha, and  Ahamad Rain of Bainga Shivpur, Dhanusa.

Police handed over the boy to his parent yesterday.

Action has been initiated against the abductors, according to police.

Anti-tobacco campaign at Baghabhairav Published on: April 5, 2000

Kathmandu, Apr. 5 : An anti-tobacco campaign was organised today at Baghabhairav area of Kirtipur Municipality amidst a variety of programmes such as rally, public awareness drive and a street play “Yamaraj”.

Minister of State for Health Tirtha Ram Dangol, the chief guest at the programme, said he had given up smoking for good thanks to the anti-smoking drive.

Every one should give up smoking and help other to follow suit, he added.

Speaking from the chair, national president of Nepal Jaycees Phul Kumar Lalbani said that women should come forward to give up bad habit like smoking.

Represemtative of the His Majesty’s Government health education, Information and Communications Centre Uttam, Ratna Shakya, chairman of Kathmandu district sports development committee Chandra Vinod Chalise, programme convenor Naveen Tamrakar and Kirtipur Jaycees chairman Ravindra Pradhan also expressed their views at the programme.

The function was organised by Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation with the active participation of Nepal Jaycees, Kathmandu Sports Development committee and Kirtipur jaycees.

At the programme, marathon runner Baikuntha Manandhar handed over the flame of the anti-tobacco campaign to Minister of State Dangol.

National Youth Council Vice-chair Arrivals Published on: April 5, 2000

Kathmandu, April 5 (RSS): The seven-member Nepalese delegation led by National Youth Council vice chairman Homraj Dahal has returned home after a week-long visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of the National Youth Services Council of Sri Lanka.

During the visit, the Nepalese delegation held mutual talks with Sri Lankan Minister for Youth, Sports and Progress, and other Sri Lankan officials including secretary, Natioal Youth Council president and executive directors on the prospects of youth development and on identifying the areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The delegation included National Youth Council member secretary Shyam Sundar Prasad Shah, treasurer Rajuraj Joshi, members Mahalaxmi Upadhyaya (DINA), Hema Dhungana, under secretary at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Vishnunath Sharma and T. U. lecturer Dr Chiranjibi Nepal.

FNCCI to mark Industry and Commerce Day Published on: April 5, 2000

Kathmandu, April 5: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has decided to observe the national industry and commerce day for the first time on April 10. The observance, FNCCI believes, will raise awareness and enhance enthusiasm in the economic sector, including industry and commerce, and extend significant contributions in the development and promotion of the sector,.

The FNCCI social services committee meeting held under its chairman Shashi Kanta Agrawal decided to launch various programmes with committee co-chairman Gopal Prasad Chhetri as the convenor and Durgesh Karki as the co-convenor.

Accordingly, it is also to hold a blood donation programme on April 7 and set up a health camp at Pharping on April 8.

Panta opens Mahapurana Published on: April 5, 2000

Pokhara, Apr. 5: Minister of State for Women and Social Welfare Kamala Devi Panta inaugurated the Shrimad Devi Bhagvat Mahapurana and Vishista Dhanyanchal festival here today.

At the religious programme was organised by Ramghat Dah-Sanskar (cremation) Paropakar Samiti,  Minister of State Panta observed that a society divorced from spiritual knowledge would be meaningless.

Bachan Shiromani Pandit Narayan Prasad Pokharel said the 9-day religious programme was started on the occasion of Chait Shukla Navaratri, one of the four Navaratris. The festival managing committee coordinator Sapta Bahadur Thapa presided.

TB eradication big challenge in Nepal Published on: April 5, 2000

Kathmandu, Apr.  5: The fifth annual review of the National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP), which started on 28th March, brings eminent experts from the various national and international organisations, according to the National Tuberculosis Centre.

In this connection, a presentation of review reports and summary findings to Ministry of Health at Technical Advisory Group meeting was held at a function here this afternoon. Some of the recommendations of the review include ensuring a continuous long term supply of high quality medicines, involving other sectors such as medical institutes and industries in DOTS provision and fixing a deadline by which DOTS must be available in all districts.

Speaking on the occasion, secretary at the Ministry of Health Srikant Regmi said that even as Nepal approach the 21st century, the people were still faced with the daunting challenge of eradicating Tuberculosis. “T.B. control programme is our grass-root programme”, he said and added that HMG has given top most priority in order to wipe out the disease.

Prof. Donald Enarson, Scientific Director of International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IUATLD) presented the review recommendation. Dr Klaus Wagner, WHO representative, Dr M. Aoki, President of Japan Anti TB Association (JATA) and B.D Chataut, Director General of DOHS also spoke on the occasion.

CJ, 16 other judges submit property details Published on: April 5, 2000

Kathmandu, April 5: Sixteen judges including the Chief Justice Keshav Prasad Upadhyaya have so far submitted their property details in accordance with the provision made in the Judicial Council (procedure) Regulations-2056 B.S.

Under the Judicial Council (procedure) Regulations-2056, the   judges are required to submit details of their movable and immovable property in their names as well as their family member’s and the sources of it  at the Judicial Council Secretariat.

The regulations was enforced since January 13 and the judges are required to submit their  property details by end  of the month of Chait (March/April).

Officiating secretary of the Judical Council Jayaprakash Man Singh Maskey said the judges have been sent necessary forms for submitting property details. The property details should be updated by the judges every two years.

The regulations call for the working judges to submit property details within three months and newly appointed judge within 35 days.

At present, there are 238 judges including the Chief Justice, 15 permanent judges and three temporary judges at the Supreme Court, six additional judges and 100 judges including and 120 juidges at the Appellate Courts and 120 judges at the district courts. Spokesman of the Supreme Court Kashi Raj Dahal expressed confidence that all the judges will submit their property details in time.

16 suspects in Rautahat case released Published on: April 5, 2000

Rautahat, April 5: Sixteen persons suspected to be involved in setting ablaze the house of Minister of State for Forest and Soil Conservation Mohammad Aftaf Alam located at Rajpur Farahadawa-4 in Rautahat district a few days ago have been released, according to the district police office.

According to information provided by superintendent of police Madan Bahadur Khadka, 11 workers of the cpn-uml including  its district deputy secretary Jayachandra Prasad Patel and five others were released after investigations.

Mr Khadka said Inarbari vdc chairman Kishori Raya Yadav and Ram Chandra Giri of Narkatiya  have been detained for investigation in connection with the kidnapping  of the ddc member Jaya Prakash Kaushal from the ddc premises.

Investigation in connection with the fire is underway.

Meanwhile, the cpn-uml rautahat district committee has protested against the arrest of  its district member Ramashish Saha.

A statement issued by cpn-uml district secretary Sachidananda Saha also protests against the arrest of member of Rautahat district Nepal Press Union Ram Chandra Giri.

SOS Children’s Village president arriving tomorrow Published on: April 5, 2000

Kathmandu, April 5: Helmut Kutin, President, SOS Children’s Village International, is arriving on 7th April for 10 days visit to Nepal.

During his 10-day visit to Nepal, he will be visiting Pokhara, Surkhet and Itahari and observe SOS Children’s Villages and other SOS projects in different parts of the country. There are seven SOS Children’s Villages, 10 SOS Youth Facilities, eight  SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools, 2 SOS Vocational Training Centres, 5 SOS Hermann Gmeiner Social Centre for Mother and Child and 1 SOS Hermann Gmeiner Medical Centre in Nepal which are mainly supported by SOS Children Village International.

He will be inspecting them to ascertain as to whether these projects are run in the best possible manner.

The President of SOS Children’s Village International has been conferred with Bikhyat Trishkti Patta by His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty’s 55th birthday.

Kathmandu, April 5: Chief whip of the CPN-UML Bharat Mohan Adhikari has objected to the proroguing of the parliamentary session without first finding ways to solve various problems including white terror spread by the ruling party in Rautahat district. In a press statement today, Mr Adhikari on behalf of the party thanked the RPP, Rastriya Janamorcha, Nepal Sadbhawana Party, Samyukta Janamorcha and the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party for their clear views put across in Parliament for resolving this problem.
