Kathmandu, May 8: Boys Union Club and Boys Sports Club played 1-1 draw while Bansbari Club registered its first victory by beating Sankata Boys Sports Club in today’s matches played under the Martyrs Memorial League being played Dashrath Stadium.
In the first match of the day, Boys Union had to be satisfied with a draw against Boys Sports despite dominating the rivals. Their domination over the rival was manifested also in their lead that materialize as early as in the 7th minute of the game through a Kumar Subba’s powerful shot taken just outside the penalty area.
However their lead did not last long as the Boys sports player regrouped together to exact and equalizer in the 26th minute. Bijay Subba converted a free kick awarded to his team outside the penalty zone.
In the second match of the day, Bansbari enjoyed its first victory of the tournament beating Sankata 2-1.
After playing a horribly listless first half, Bansbari’s Prajun Dahal capitalized a pass fed to him by Shant Karki in the 55th minute. However, Sankata did not allow their rival enjoy the lead any longer as Suresh Karmacharya capitalized a fault of Bansbari keeper Surendra and easily headed home to give his team the equalizer.
But the Bansbari boys who looked superior in form today ultimately pulled off a decider in the 90th minute when Bharat Lama cashed in a pass fed to him by Shyam Pun within the striking zone.
Kathmandu, May 8: The overall transaction of the stock market witnessed a decline this week. The NEPSE index that stood at 350.77 previous week dropped to 347.22 by the closing for this week recording a net loss of 3.478 points over the previous close.
The opening index this week was 349.54 that declined by 2.32 per cent by this week’s closing hour.
Altogether 57,282 units of shares of 41 companies were traded this week in 674 transactions for Rs. 25,074,083. During the previous week, 122,940 units of shares were traded for Rs. 52,340,015.
The NEPSE index showed that the Bank of Kathmandu stood at the top in terms of the total number of shares traded as well as in terms of value. It had a transaction of 10,403 units of shares for Rs. 8,561,460. Nepal Bangladesh Bank had the highest number of transactions that stood at 105.
The commercial banks topped the volume of transaction with 83.30 per cent followed by financial group with 3.91 per cent, manufacturing group 3.88 per cent, insurance group with 3.34 per cent, hotel group with 2.91 per cent and business group with 0.07 per cent.
The companies that had the transactions throughout the week are Nepal Bank Ltd. (345), Nepal SBI Bank (1,051-1,115), Nepal Bangladesh Bank (1,326-1,365), Everest Bank (870-873), Bank of Kathmandu (747-881), Nepal Lever Ltd. (2,450-2,500), Taragaon Regency Hotel (179-173).
Nepal Indosuez Bank (1,350-1,305), Nepal Grindlays Bank (1,999-1,970), Himalayan Bank (1,700-1,650), Necon Air (260-265), Everest Insurance (450-480), Nepal Motion Picture Development Company (64-61), Prople’s Finance (180-181), Universal Finance and Capital Markets (150) were the companies having trancations on four of the five transaction days.
The companies having only one transaction during the week were Nepal Lube Oil, Salt Trading, Nepal Insurance, Himalayan General Insurance, Annapurna Finance, Nepal Housing Development Finance Company, General Finance and Neco Insurance.

Kathmandu, May 8: The Nepal Tourism Board participated in the 7th Arabian Travel Market at World Trade Centres, Dubai from 2-5 May 2000. The Arabian Travel Market is recognised as the largest travel trade event in the Middle East for the trade and consumer alike. The Exhibition covered an area of 7,000 sq., metres featuring 700 companies from 59 countries. The Travel Market was formally inaugurated by the Crown Prince H.H. Sheikh Abdullah, according to the Nepal Tourism Board.
The Nepal Stand promoting Nepal as a safe and exotic destination, was decorated in an ethnic eye-catching colourful design depicting the culture, nature and adventure attractions of the country. Various queries pertaining to sightseeing, trekking, rafting, accommodation, visa formalities and accessibility etc. were entertained from the visitors.
Lasting four days, the visitors figure to Nepal Stand totaled more than 10,000 comprising of travel trade sector, print and TV media, diplomats, and the general public. Promotional materials like brochures, travel guides, lokta bags, lokta diaries, video documentaries and CD ROM’s were distributed to the visitors who showed great interest in visiting Nepal. The topographical attractions of Nepal sharply contrasts with that of the Middle East and with 13 flights a week from Gulf region to Kathmandu, Nepal has a very potential market in the Middle East both among the local and the expatriates.
A major attraction at the Stand was a lucky draw of one week holiday in Nepal with return airfare for two couples sponsored by RNAC, Transavia and the rest of the private sector participants.
Biratnagar, May 8: Mukunda Dahal, a resident of Biratnagar sub-metropolitan city, Ward No. 10, has been arrested on the charges of women trafficking, the district police office, Morang, stated.
The accused, who was said to be having an affair with a girl with the surname Bhujel for the past 8-10 months, was arrested after the girl complained against him at the Ilaka police office Rani accusing him of forcing her to sleep with his friends when the two had gone for a visit to Jogbani in India.
The girl is learnt to have escaped from the captivity of his friends and then reported the matter to the police in Nepal.
Police said Dahal was married. He has been booked under the prevention of trafficking in human act
Kathmandu, May 8: Dr. Bimal Prasad Koirala, Special Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Ms. Maxine Olsen Chief, Country Operation Division, Regional Bureau for Asia and Pacific, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) jointly inaugurated Bhutkhola Micro Hydro Demonstration Scheme established in Piughar, Deurali VDC, Tanahun amidst a ceremony held on Sunday.
The 12 kilowatt plant was installed with the assistance from Rural Energy Development Programme (REDP) a joint initiative of His Majesty’s Government of Nepal and UNDP. The scheme serves 53 households of the village.
The plant commissioned since 31st December 1998 was established with the cost of Rs 1,201,202 excluding the local labour and raw materials. The cost has met through subsidy from HMG/N, loan from ADB/N, DDC and VDC contribution and REDP assistance.
On the occasion, Dr. Koirala and Ms. Olsen observed different income generating works initiated by the villagers. With the initiation of REDP community mobilization process in the village, lifestyle of people of Piughar have changed drastically, the REDP statement said.
Altogether, 6 community organizations (COs) have been formed in the village including 3 female COs. On the basis of discussions in the weekly meetings, the community members undertake different development works. The community members are engaged in activities such as renovation of old trails and construction of new trails, toilets, renovation of community tap, keeping their surroundings clean, etc.
Beside implementing various development efforts, the community members are actively participating in different income-generating activities such as agro-processing, poultry farming, hotel business, pig rearing, and lighting the community members have also established a fish pond using the water from the tailrace of the micro hydro.
Syangja, May 8: Deputy Prime Minister Ram Chandra Poudel said that the present Nepali Congress government has introduced public welfare programmes such as the “B.P. Among the Poor” and the “Women Awareness and Income Generating Programmes” for the economic uplift of the backward communities, rural development and making the underprivileged section of the society important partners of the national development process.
Addressing a mass meeting organised by the Nepali Congress Kalikot Village Committee in Dumre Bhanjyang, Syangja district on Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Poudel said the Nepali Congress government would make adequate budgetary allocations for construction of the Waling-Hubas road and carrying out the survey works for a concrete bridge over the Andhikhola River.
He said neither development could be realised nor a civilised society built in the absence of pure politics charecterised by sincerity of purpose and a sense of service.
Therefore, the people should the mselves judge what kind of politics to choose to correct the present deviant politics, he added.
He expressed the view that the struggle for democracy was not guided by the sole motive of politics for politics’ sake or to usurp political power and play political games.
Instead it is a campaign to protect the political ,economic and social rights of the people, he said.
At the programme presided over by Nepali Congress Kalikot Village Committee president Bal Bahadur Gurung, MPs Gopal Man Shrestha, Shankar Pandey, Dilli Raj Sharma and Tanka Prasad Sharma Kandel spoke on the importance of forging a national consensus on issues of development and public concern.
Deputy Prime Minister Poudel also inspected the under construction Waling-Hubas road Saturday.
The Waling-Hubas road is being constructed with the joint cooperation of the Ministry of Local Development, the Ministry of Physical Planning, Works and Transport and the World Food Programme.
Kathmandu, May 8: The 26th of the Nepali month Baisakh has a special significance for all those in the law profession of the country. It is taken as the day when an independent judiciary was first established and impartial justice and the rule of law guaranteed in the country.
Baisakh 26 also marks the establishment, 48 years ago, of an independent judiciary that was capable of final jurisdiction as per the Supreme Court Act-2009. The day is being celebrated as the Law Day ever since.
The Supreme Court Act of 2009 B.S. had clearly set the area of jurisdiction of the apex court, specified the appointment procedure of the Chief Justice, the terms and conditions of service and facilities of the chief justice and judges and the universal application of the law set by jurisdiction of the court at all offices and courts.
The Supreme Court Act of 2013 B.S., which followed the Supreme Court Act-2009 B.S., formally led to the establishment of the Supreme Court of Nepal and the Supreme Court is presently governed by the Supreme Court Act-2048 B.S. after the promulgation of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal-1990.
Elucidating the importance of the Law Day, Attorney General Badri Bahadur Karki says the Law Day has much more importance at present since the present constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal which was drafted following restoration of democracy in the country establishes the supremacy of the constitution.
Attorney General Karki also points out that a pledge should be made on the occasion of the Law Day to enhance the glory and honour of the day in the present context when activities such as taking the law into one’s own hands to perpetrate anti-constitutional and illegal activities are increasing day by day.
Nepal Bar Association president Harihar Dahal said the Law Day would have relevance only if all those engaged in the judiciary and the legal profession carry out their duties and responsibilities well being guided by the sole motive of protecting and promoting the dignity and honour of an independent judiciary and the sanctity of the rule of law.
President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Anup Raj Sharma opined that only an independent and impartial judiciary did not add to the relevance of the Law Day.
He said the government should encourage extensive public debate on any issues of public importance prior to introducing a law, the law reforms commission should be activated, judges and law practitioners should be imparted training, arrangements should be made for skilled manpower in courts and the courts should be facilitated with the necessary physical infrastructures in order to realise the objectives of an impartial judiciary.
He also stressed the need for making adequate budgetary allocations for the judiciary.
Spokesperson of the Supreme Court Kashiraj Dahal said the main objective of the law day is that the duties and functions of all the bodies exercising state power are done according to the constitution and the laws of the land and that the rule of law established in all spheres of state governance.
Advocate Prakash Wasti said the law day would have significance only if the government, the bar and bench hold group discussions and make an honest assessment of progress made so far in the field of independent and impartial judiciary and the principle of the rule of law.
The Law Day should not be made only a formality, he stressed.
Tulsipur, May 8: Vice-chancellor of the Mahendra Sanskrit University (MSU) Madhav Raj Gautam inaugurated a day-long conference of teachers from university affiliated sanskrit colleges at the central office of the university in Beljhundi, Dang, on Sunday.
On the occasion, vice-chancellor Gautam said the university was making efforts to impart quality education to its students so that they would be able to establish themselves in the society.
He stressed the need for setting up a revolving fund for the economic sustenance of the university.
University Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Bhoj Raj Pant suggested the seminar participants hold extensive discussions on the timely amendments in the university curriculum, textbooks, and the financial regime such as the academic fees and the economic administration of the university and find out concrete ways for its improvement.
Rector Prof. (Dr.) Baburam Sharma Pokharel from the chair said the university has been conducting various research activities in the field of ancient knowledge system as well as in modern subjects.
Some 30 persons including teachers from 12 affiliated colleges, controllers of examination, executive directors and divisional and section chiefs of the central office attended the conference.

On the occasion various religious scholars and academics stressed cultivation of the innerself and universal compassion in order to rid the world of war and violence.
They concluded that the vices of greed and avarice and the lack of a sense of love, compassion and kindness in modern man were behind all the kind of chaos in the present day world.
A five-point programme of action was also drawn on the occasion to spread the message of love, peace, kindness and compassion throughout the country.

Kathmandu, May 8: A workshop organised under the joint auspices of the Rural Development Foundation and the Judicial Council Secretariat recently recommended to implement measures for competence development of both judges and lawyers to make justice fair, reliable and accessible to the people.
The workshop participated in by a galaxy of judges and lawyers emphasised on making case hearing and pleading more focused on the fact in issue so that cases were disposed speedily. Fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal should be protected by judiciary. The workshop concluded that judges should grant for extension of custody of an accused only if there were sufficient grounds to require investigation to determine whether the crime was committed.
The workshop was opened by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Keshab Prasad Upadhyaya, and senior judges of the apex court had presented theme papers on different aspects of the administration of justice. Spokesperson of the Supreme Court Kashi Raj Dahal and President of the Rural Development Foundation Krishna Man Pradhan had pledged cooperation in taking initiatives towards strengthening capacity of judiciary especially for providing speedier justice to the people.
Rural Development Foundation has published the workshop proceedings and findings compiling together into a report. Writing foreword to the Report Chief Justice Upadhyaya hails the cooperation extended by the Foundation to the Judicial Council Secretariat in organising the workshop. President of the Rural Development Foundation Krishna Man Pradhan promises to make the Report available to all the judges at different levels of court so as to disseminate the workshop findings to assist the process of administration of justice.
