Nepal, Kuwait friendship match after 19 years Published on: March 21, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal is playing against Kuwait after 19 years, in an international  friendship match in Kuwait today. Nepal is playing the first friendly match today. The next match will be played on coming Tuesday.

Nepal’s newly appointed head coach, Johan Kalin said, “Nepal is ready to win against Kuwait.  Head coach Kalin said, “As this is my first task, the two matches will be valuable match experience for me and the team. All young players (U-23) are in the preparatory camp for AFC U-23 Championship Thailand 2020 Qualifiers so there are some new faces in my team. It will be a test for us to see where we are at the moment. We expect two tough games.”

Nepal had played against Kuwait in 2000 A.D under the AFC Asia Cup. In that match,  Kuwait had defeated Nepal 5-0.

Kiran Chemjong, Biket Kuthu, Bishal Shrestha, Rohit Chanda, Ajit Bhandari, Ravi Silwal, Suraj Bishwokarma, Ranjit Dhimal, Biraj Maharjan, Saroj Dahal, Devendra Tamang, Ravi Paswan, Tanka Basnet, Santosh Tamang, Bikram Lama, Bishal Rai, Heman Gurung, Sujal Shrestha, Ranjan Bista, Suman Lama, Bharat Khawas, Bimal Rana, Navayug Shreshta and Ashish Lama are enlisted in the squad of the Nepali Team.

Nepal is three steps down than Kuwait in the FIFA ranking. Nepal is in 161 positions, whereas Kuwait is placed in 158th positions.

Sandeep Lamichhane leaves for India to play IPL Published on: March 20, 2019

KATHMANDU:  Sandeep Lamichhane, Nepal’s national cricket team member and leg spinner, has left for India to play the 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).

He is  representing the Delhi Capitals this season of IPL that kicks off from March 23. His team will play against the Mumbai Indians in its first match on March 24.

The 18-year-old leg spinner, who made his debut in the IPL through the Delhi Daredevils last season, is the first Nepali to play the IPL.

Last time, in the last three matches, he gave an outstanding performance by taking five wickets. He was paid Indian Rupees two million last year. However, the IPL has not declared his wage this time. Lamichhane has already created a history by playing in multiple international cricket matches.

Nepal to lock horns with India in final Published on: March 20, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal will lock horns against India in the final match under the SAFF Women Championship 2019 on Friday.

Nepal has entered the final defeating Sri Lanka by 4 goals held at Sahid Stadium in Biratnagar on Wednesday.

Punam Jargha Magar opened points account by scoring the first goal against the opponent team at the 42nd minute by utilizing a header from Sabitra Bhandari. Likewise, Anita Basnet doubled the score capitalizing on the pass by Rekha Paudel at the 73rd minute.

Similarly, Nepal left Sri Lanka behind with a 4-0 lead after Sabitra Bhandari and Rekha Paudel scored one goal each into the goal post of the opponent team at the 82nd minute and 86th minute, respectively.

With this win, Nepal has entered the final for the fourth time (2010, 2012, 2014, 2019). Nepal is the winner of group A. Earlier, it defeated Bhutan by 3-0 in the opening match and emerged out to be the group winner by trouncing Bangladesh by the same goal differences.

Similarly, India has also entered the final by defeating Bangladesh by 4-0 goals in the second semifinals match held at Sahid Stadium in Biratnagar on Wednesday. India is only the country who has clinched the title of all the series of SAFF Women Championship.

Dalima Chhibber opened the goal for India in the 18th minute. Similarly, Indumathi Kathiresan extended the goals in the 23rd minute and 37th minute. Likewise, Manisha added a goal in the 92nd minute.

T-20 World Cup Cricket Asia Qualifier : Nepal to face Qatar Published on: March 20, 2019

KATHMANDU: The final leg match schedule of the International Cricket Council (ICC) T-20 World Cup Asia Qualifier has been unveiled today. As per the schedule released by ICC, the last leg matches under the Qualifier would be held from July 23 to 28, 2019.

Nepal’s contender in the first match is Qatar. Nepal will play against Qatar on July 23 in its first match, against Malaysia on July 24 in its second match, against Kuwait on July 27 in its third match and against Singapore on July 28 in its last match.

The top two teams from each group would book their place in the Global Qualifiers of the T-20 World Cup. The Global Qualifier will take place between September-end to beginning few days of November.

SAFF Women’s C’ship: Nepal taking on Sri Lanka in semis Published on: March 20, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal is taking on Sri Lanka at the semifinal of SAFF Women’s Championship being held in Sahid Stadium in Biratnagar on Wednesday.

The match will begin at 11 am. Nepal is confident to clinch a win against the group B runner up, with supports from Nepali football fans.

Nepal is the winner of group A. Earlier, it defeated Bhutan by 3-0 in the opening match and emerged out to be the group winner by trouncing Bangladesh by the same goal differences.

Sri Lank became group B runner up by defeating Maldives by 2-0 in its opening match while it lost to India 5-0.

Similarly, the other semifinal match is being held between India and Bangladesh today itself. It will start at 3 pm.

 

 

Four teams to participate in Women T-20 Published on: March 18, 2019

KATHMANDU: A total of four teams will be competing in the first Women T-20 Cricket Team to be held from March 23 in Biratnagar.

NCL Sports Pvt.Ltd informed that only four teams will be participating in the in the first session of the cricket league.

The participating teams include Bhairawaha Kings, Biratnagar Lions, Kathmandu Super Champion and Dhangadi Wonder.

Marquee players Kabita Kunwar will represent Bhairawa Kings whereas Karuna Bhandari will play for Biratnagar, Sita Rana Magar for Dhangadi Wonder and Neri Thapa will play for Kathmandu Super.

SAFF Championship: Nepal will play against Sri Lanka in semis Published on: March 17, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal will play against Sri Lanka under the SAFF Women’s Championship 2019.

Nepal, as the group winner, will play against Sri-Lanka, which is the group runner-up, as per the scheduled. Sri Lanka became the group runner-up after defeating India 5-0.

India dominated Sri-Lanka in the first half. For India, Gracie Dangmei (4′), Sandhya Ranganathan (7′), Indumati Katheresan (36′) and Sangita Basfore (45′) scored the goal.

Similarly, in the 47th minute of the match, Ratan Bala Devi made a goal for India.

Sri Lanka, however, could not score a single goal. Host Nepal will play against Sri Lanka on March 20 whereas India will play against Bangladesh the same day. The final match of the tournament will be played on March 22.

 

Nepal’s Yadav wins gold in Asian Youth Athletics Championship Published on: March 17, 2019

KATHMANDU: Ajit Kumar Yadav of Nepal won a gold medal in the third Asian Youth Athletics Championship held in Hong Kong.

Ajit, who is associated with the Armed Police Force (APF) Club, completed the 3,000-meter race in eight minutes and 30.32 seconds.

Likewise, first runner-up Amit Jangir of India finished the race in eight minutes and 36.34 seconds. Similarly, Gamil al- Hamati of Yemen completed the race in eight minutes 38.60 seconds to win the bronze, according to the National Sports Council (NSC).

The championship is being participated by Bhutan, Nepal, Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Indonesia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Macao, Qatar, Maldives, Philippines, and Vietnam.

Asia qualifier: U-19 cricket team leave for India Published on: March 16, 2019

KATHMANDU:  Nepali U-19 cricket team left for India for the practice match today for the preparation of the World Cup Asia qualifier. The team will play four practice match with Andra Pradesh Cricket Team.  For the  ICC U-19 World Cup Asia qualifier, the 18-member team was announced today in the captainship of Rohit Kumar Poudel,  said coach Binod Das. The 18 players were selected out of 52 players. The Asian qualifier is scheduled for coming April 10 to 20.

Nepal enters into semifinals Published on: March 16, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal entered into semifinals of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2019 after defeating Bangladesh 3-0. Nepal entered into semifinals as a group winner. Despite losing the game to Nepal, Bangladesh is also promoted to semifinals as a group runner-up.

Nepal took a lead following a suicide goal from Masura Pravin in the 6th minute of the match. Sabita Bhandari exerted pressure on the opponent in the 23 minute while Manjali Yonjan widened the gap in the 28th minute.

Nepal could not score more goals in the second half. Bangladesh played the well-improved game but could not score any goals.

Nepal’s skipper, Niru Thapa earlier said, “We have good players in the team and we need to play as a team.”

“Bangladesh is a good team. We need to increase our pace and play a technical game against them,” added the skipper.

On Sunday, India will play against Sri Lanka to determine the group winner. Nepal will now take on runner-up team of Group B in semifinals on March 20.
