NEW DELHI: Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been named the Leading Cricketer of the Year 2018. This is the third straight year that the Indian skipper received the award.
The Wisden Almanack on Wednesday picked his name among Tammy Beaumont, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran and Rory Burns. In 2018, Kohli amassed 2735 runs across all platforms.
KATHMANDU: Five events of Eight National Games, which is scheduled to begin on April 18, have started from today.
According to National Sports Council (NSC), table tennis match will be held in covered hall of Ghorahi, wrestling in Siddhartha campus based in Jitpur of Kapilvastu, men’s hockey at Mangal Prasad Higher Secondary School of Nepalgunj, squash at Satdobato of Lalitpur and lawn tennis in Butwal.
A total of 14 national events will be held before inauguration of the national games. Other games include boxing, kabaddi, judo, basketball, chess, full contact karante, cycling, fencing and gulf.
KATHMANDU: Nepal has registered a consolation win in the second round of the Olympic 2020 defeating Indonesia 2-1. Nepal’s forward Sabitra Bhandari scored both the goals.
Nepal has already crashed out of Olympic 2020 round 2 qualifiers after facing a 3-1 defeat against its archrival India on Saturday. Earlier, Nepal faced a 3-1 defeat against Myanmar on April 3.
Nepal was pitched in the group along with Myanmar, India, and Indonesia. Two teams from the group will proceed to the 3rd round of the qualifiers.
KATHMANDU: The Nepali team that is in Malaysia to play the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers participated in a second practice session on Tuesday.
A 14-member team led by youth cricketer Rohit Kumar Poudel left for Malaysia on Saturday to participate in the qualifiers to be held from April 10-18.
Nepal will play its first match against Singapore on April 12 and against the UAE on April 13. Likewise, Nepal will play against the host Malaysia on April 16 and will compete against Kuwait on April 18.
The team winning the qualifiers will qualify for the ICC U-19 World Cup 2020 to be held in South Africa.

OKHALDHUNGA: Bhim Bahadur Gurung of Gorkha and Humi Budhimagar of Pyuthan won the titles of ‘Pike-Demba Half Marathon’, which was held in Okhaldhunga in an altitude of around 4,200 meters.
In the half marathon from Pike of Solukhumbu to Khijifalate of Okhaldhunga, Gurung and Budhamagar clinched the titles under male and female categories.
To win the title, Gurung had crossed the stated distance of 21-km in 1.49 hours while Budhamagar made it in 2.40 hours.
Okhaldhunga Tourism Development Committee organized the event to promote tourism in the region through marathon, shared Wangda Sherpa, first vice-president of the Committee.
He further said the 21-km-long half marathon took place from 4,200 meters high Pike to 2,500 meters high Khijiphalate. A total of 95 female and male athletes from Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Bhaktapur and Pyuthan participated in the marathon.
SURKHET: The government of Karnali state has demanded that the 9th National Games take place in the state. A cabinet meeting of the state on Monday asked the federal government in this regard.
The eighth National Games is taking place in state 5 from the first week of the Nepali month of Baisakh, 2076.
KATHMANDU: Bengaluru Bulls has bought two Nepali players for Pro Kabaddi League 2019 season.
National Kabaddi Team player Sanjay Shrestha and Lalmohar Yadav of Tribhuvan Army Club were sold to the team at IRs one million each.
With 29 players retained by the respective franchises, the Pro Kabaddi League 2019 auction is being held in Mumbai.
KATHMANDU: Nepali leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane made a flying start to his IPL 2019 journey grabbing five wickets in the league.

KATHMANDU: Rajbikram Shah has been elected as the president of Nepal Athletics Association (NAA). A national conference held in Sauraha of Chitwan on Sunday reelected Shah as the president for the association.
A 10-member working committee has been formed under Shah’s leadership in which Janak Bahadur Rawal, Dipak Ranabhat, Shailendra Pandey, Tejendra Thapa, Dhanbir Chaudhari, Gajbahadur Gurung, Dil Bahadur Bam, Kumar Shrestha and Jitendra Chaudhary are members.
The National Sports Council (NSC) had been adjourning the elections of athletics association over dispute in district level association.
It had permitted the association to hold elections on Saturday.
KATHMANDU: Delhi Capitals, the team of Nepali leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, is taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2019 on Sunday.
Delhi Capitals has been placed sixth on the points table with four points from five matches. Royal Challengers Bangalore is placed last on the point table within zero points from five matches.
Cricket enthusiasts in Nepal are eagerly waiting to find if Lamichhane will be included in playing XI against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Lamichhane was included in the last three matches of Delhi Capitals and he has grabbed four wickets from the matches.
