Three held for raping a teenager Published on: March 23, 2019

KAVREPALANCHOWK: Police have arrested three persons on the charge of raping a 14-year-girl at Mandan Deupur Municipality-7  in the district.

Those arrested include Puskar Rai,24, Prakash Danuwar,21, of the same locality and Ram Kumar Rai,21, of ward no. 7, according to DSP at the district police office, Dhulikhel Dipak Giri. The fourth person is at large. The arrests were made following FIR filed by the family of the rape survivor.

According to police, the girl used to work extracting sand from the river. And two of the alleged rapists are driver and driver assistant of a tipper used to transport sand. They lured the girl into the tipper, took her to the river  bank and raped her.

Police said they are investigating the case.

Biplav outfit’s influential leader Hemanta Oli held Published on: March 23, 2019

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Hemanta Prakash Oli, influential leader of Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand alias Biplav. Oli was arrested from Kavre district on Friday night. He is the central command in-charge of he party.

Police had been searching Oli as he was the mastermind behind the explosion at Nakhkhu-based Ncell headquarters, where a man died while two others sustained critical injuries.

Eight cadres including Oli arrested 

A special squad of Nepal Police has arrested eight cadres including Oli. Their ranks and positions in the party are yet to be ascertained. Those arrested include Shankar Adhikari, Bijaya Shrestha, Dharma Rajbahak, Ram Krishna Khatiwada, Lalit Tamang, Sanjeev Karki, Dev Ghimire and Lokendra Khadka, according police.

They were arrested during security check at Khanikhola-7, Milche Danda while they were traveling in a Scorpio jeep, Ba 17 Cha 4893, last night. Police said they will be brought to Metropolitan Crime Division, Tekhu.

Biplav leaders and cadres have gone underground after the government banned the former’s activities.

Police have launched a search and arrest operation following the ban. Earlier, a mobile police team  had exchanged fire with Biplav cadres at Falame Sanghu of Kavre district and arrested two cadres.

A cabinet meeting held on March 12 had decided to ban Biplav-led Nepal Communist Party terming it as a criminal outfit. With the decision the Home Ministry has directed Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department in all 77 districts to keep close tabs on the activities of the Biplav’s outfit.

Tax official faces music over taking bribe Published on: March 23, 2019

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday filed a graft case against a tax official on the charge of taking bribe in Panchthar district.

According to a report in Gorkhapatra, the anti-graft body filed a case against Revenue Officer Man Prasad BK claiming that he embezzled of Rs 18,267,779 in the last nine years.

BK has amassed Rs 12766945 through his salary, land sale, and other income sources, investigation shows.

More girls in govt schools, boys in private Published on: March 23, 2019

KATHMANDU: A deep-rooted gender discrimination is still underway in the Nepali society. Parents favor sons over daughter which is reflected in the educational system, too. A government statistics has shown that number of female  students appearing in the SEE exam from government schools is greater. The SEE exam is beginning from March 23.

According to the record at the National Examination Board, a total of 475,003 examinees  are taking part in the SEE exam, of which 340,196 are from government schools. Of the of total students representing the government schools, 53.4 percent are girls while 46.6 percent are boys.

Similarly, of those representing private schools, 42 percent girls while 57.9 percent are boys.

Gear up for Nepal Investment Summit, directs PM Oli Published on: March 22, 2019

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed the concerned to gear up for the upcoming Nepal Investment Summit. The prime minister was speaking at the second meeting of Industry Commerce Promotion Dialogue Council held at Singha Durbar on Friday evening.

Speaking at the meeting, PM Oli directed to prepare for the summit, as according to him, Nepal needs huge investment and create an investment-friendly environment. He also lauded the role of the private sector in bringing foreign investment.

The prime minister also directed to identify areas of investment in the country.

PM Oli urges Biplab to shun violence Published on: March 22, 2019

BUTWAL: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said development campaign had begun in the country. The prime minister added that it would be accelerated in the coming days. PM Oli made the remarks while launching the expansion and upgrading of Narayangadh-Butwal roadway.

The Narayangadh-Butwal road along the East-West Highway is getting expanded to four lanes.

At the program organized here today, PM Oli reminded that it was no more the time for anarchy and insecurity.

Indicating the Biplab-led party, he said the thoughts of violence, murder and bombing needs to given up. Those involved in such activities would be booked as per the law, he added.

 

ISSR saddened by Dahal’s demise Published on: March 22, 2019

KATHMANDU: The Institute for Strategic and Socio-Economic Research (ISSR) held a condolence meet to mourn the demise of its Founding Director, Dr. Madan Dahal.

The meet concluded that the country has faced an irreparable loss by the demise of a renowned economist and professor, Dr. Dahal.

Speaking at the condolence meet, ISSR Chairman Prof. Dr. Bishwambher Pyakuryal expressed sadness and said that his loss is irreplaceable. He remembered late Dahal’s contribution in the field of economics.

ISSR Acting Chairman, Govinda Nepal expressed his grief over losing a renowned economist and remembered Dahal as a good friend of the organization.

Likewise, ISSR Executive Director, Naresh Shrestha expressed sadness over losing a friendly person. He remembered Dahal’s contribution while wishing for eternal peace to the departed soul.

Similarly, ISSR Executive Director, Rabindra Pandey expressed grief over the demise of Dahal and wished for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

Dahal breathed his last while undergoing treatment for stomach related ailments at Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) today. He was 72.

22 tourists rescued in 3 months Published on: March 22, 2019

KATHMANDU: A total of 22 mountaineering tourists were rescued in December, January and February, according to the Department of Tourism (DoT). Of them, 12 tourists were rescued in December from different parts of Nepal.

Most of them were rescued from the Mt. Everest Circuit route. Similarly, 6 tourists were rescued in January and 4 tourists in February. However, rescue reasons were cited only in the case of the  7  rescued tourists. Reasons include diarrhea, high altitude and heavy snow.

 

Nepali Embassy in Malaysia rescues 16 migrant workers Published on: March 22, 2019

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in Malaysia has rescued and repatriated 16 Nepali migrant workers, who were stranded in the Southeast Asian country.

The Embassy in a statement stated it rescued ten Nepalis from Juru Detention Center on March 14 and six others from Johar Baru Detention Center on March 21.

The Embassy has urged all not to be lured by false promises made by swindlers and provide them with money for rescue and repatriation of Nepalis in different prisons and detention centers in Malaysia.

The statement added the Embassy will continue to work for rescue and repatriation of Nepali migrant workers left high and dry in Malaysia.

Economist Madan Dahal passes away Published on: March 22, 2019

KATHMANDU: Professor Dr. Madan Dahal passed away on Friday. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment for stomach related ailments at Kathmandu Medical College (KMC).

Professor of Economics at Tribhuvan University, Dahal had played a noteworthy role in the economic development of the country. Late Dahal had a good understating of public finance and taxation. The Ministry of Finance used to take regular suggestions from him on economic development. He had also worked as an international consultant for Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Also the chairman of Operating Committee of Mega Bank, Dahal was the founding director at Institute for Strategic and Socio-Economic Research (ISSR).

Of late, Dahal was active on social media and had been expressing his views on economic development of the country, steps for economic development and roles for improvements in tax system.

His last rites will be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat today.
