Nepal seeks 30 trillion investment Published on: March 28, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal Investment Summit 2019 is taking place in Kathmandu on Friday. Nepal government is trying to seek foreign investment in various sectors including agriculture, energy, education, tourism, and infrastructure.

Nepal is showcasing over 77 projects – 50 governments and 27 – in the summit whose estimated cost would come around Rs 30 trillion, Kantipur daily reported.

The summit will witness over 600 participants from over 40 countries, according to Investment Board Nepal (IBN). Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada said that preparations have been completed.

Maha Prasad Adhikari, Chief Executive Officer of IBN, said that the summit will showcase a total of 77 projects to attract investment in Nepal.

China anxious to build railway into Nepal Published on: March 28, 2019

KATHMANDU: While railway connectivity has been the talk of the town in Nepal, China also wants to connect the two countries with a railway at the earliest,  a report in Annapurna daily said.

Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Jianghao said,  “We are anxious to build railway into the southern part of Nepal.”

He informed that the Chinese government is making a study on railway connectivity into Nepal after holding a bilateral  talks.

“If both the countries want it to happen, railway connectivity is not a big problem. Bilateral cooperation is a win-win situation. We are focused on the interest of the Nepali people,” he said.

President certifies three bills Published on: March 27, 2019

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday certified three bills endorsed by both Houses of the Federal Parliament.

The bills, Public-Private Partnership and Investment Bill-2075, Bill designed to amend Special Economic Zone Act-2073 and Bill designed to amend and integrate laws related to Foreign Investment and Technology Transfer-2075 have been certified, according to the Office of the President.

The President certified the bills in accordance with Article 113 (2) of the Constitution.

Biplav’s district in-charge arrested Published on: March 27, 2019

BIRATNAGAR: Police arrested Krishna Kumar Shrestha, the Morang in-charge of the Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Nepal Communist Party, today.

Shrestha was arrested from Morang. He is under custody at the Area Police Office, Dharan, police said.

Indian national shot dead in Butwal Published on: March 27, 2019

BUTWAL: An unidentified group shot dead an Indian national in Butwal on Wednesday evening.

The victim, Feroz Khan, 45, was an employee at the Auto Village at Mainanagar, Butwal, police said.

He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Lumbini Provincial Hospital.

The reason behind the attack is not clear. Police have initiated investigation.

Biplav outfit withdraws nationwide strike Published on: March 27, 2019

KATHMANDU: The Netra Bikram Chand Biplav-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) has withdrawn the nationwide strike the party had called for March 30.

The party said it called off the strike due to the ongoing SEE exams and the elections of Nepal Bar Association (NBA).

Earlier, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had urged the party to withdraw the strike.

The Coca-Cola Company has launched the 5by20 program to empower 5 million women entrepreneurs in 200 countries by 2020. The company has initiated 5by20 program in 2010 to enable the economic empowerment of the targeted number in the esteemed time.

Minister Magar says complaint at CIAA intended to assassinate her character Published on: March 27, 2019

KATHMANDU: Minister for Water Supply Bina Magar has said that her serious attention has been drawn towards a complaint filed by leader of Bibeksheel Nepali Dal Ranju Darshana against her at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) alleging her of irregularities in Melamchi Drinking Water Project.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, Minister Magar said that the complaint was intended to assassinate her character being politically biased. Saying the project is linked with pride of Nepalis, Minister Magar has condemned the ‘ill-intended’ act.

Minister Magar said that the project took speed and the work of tunnel construction completed after she took charge of the office while accepting that some problems have aroused after Italian company CMC abandoned the project. The statement added the company left the project after it went bankrupt.

Ex-minister Neupane released on bail Published on: March 27, 2019

KATHMANDU: The Special Court on Wednesday released former Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Badri Neupane on a bail bond of Rs 500,000.

A bench comprising of Chairman of Special Court Baburam Regmi and Justices Dwarikaman Joshi and Pramod Kumar Baidhya ordered his release.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a graft case against Neupane accusing him of irregularities while leasing land being used by the Bhrikutimandap-based Fun Park.

Neupane has been released after posting the bail bond.

 

81,077 apply for Korean Language Test Published on: March 27, 2019

KATHMANDU: A total of 81,077 applicants have so far applied for the Korean Langue Test (KLT) under the Employment Permit System. Out of the total number, 55,997 have applied in productive sector while 25,080 applied for the agriculture and livestock sectors.

According to the Department of Foreign Employment, EPS section, the candidates will have to fill out forms online from March 22 to 31.

Human Resource Department under the Korean government has announced vacancies for 10,050 Nepali workers – 7,050 for productive sector while over 3,000 for agriculture and livestock sectors – at the request of the department for the year 2019. KLT will be held on June 8-9.
