KATHMANDU: The government has enforced unified security plan in Kathmandu in view of the Nepal Investment Summit-2019 beginning tomorrow.
The Summit, which has been aimed to attract foreign investment in the country, is beginning tomorrow.
Ministry of Home Affairs said the government has adopted special security measures to ensure law and order in the capital.
Spokesperson of the Ministry, Ram Krishna Subedi said around 7,000 security personnel from all three security forces and traffic police have been deployed in various places, including airport, the summit venue and the hotels where guests will be staying.
More than 600 delegates from 40 countries are scheduled to participate in the Summit.
KATHMANDU: Minutes after arriving in Kathmandu from the United States this evening, Chairman of Nepal Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal disclosed that he was shocked to know that a ‘petition’ was filed against him in Maryland when he was still flying in the sky.
Dahal, however, expressed the gratitude that he was led to the ‘destination’ clandestinely as soon as he landed at the airport in the US.
“I was not informed about it and how I would be ushered from the airport,” he told journalists upon his arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA).
Dahal was in the US for the treatment of his spouse, Sita. She was treated at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
It should be noted that a US citizen of Nepali origin had sought a way out as how and where he should file a case against Dahal for his alleged violation of human rights during the decade-long insurgency in Nepal.
Dahal praised Nepali Ambassador to the United States Arjun Karki and his team saying, “They escorted me with extreme cautiousness. In fact, I was confident that I would not face any trouble there since the US government had already issued a ‘no investigation notice’.”
Dahal told journalists that he had some quality talks with the US officials during his stay there. “The US and Nepal had not had high-level talks for a long time. It is high time that we held such meetings with the US authorities at the higher level,” he added.
DHANUSHA: The Dhanusha District Court today sentenced former state minister Sanjay Sah (Takla) with life imprisonment.
A single bench of Justice Rajesh Kumar Katuwal issued the verdict on the charge of masterminding the 2012 Janakpur blast that claimed five lives.
Following the hearing, former parliamentarian Sah and six others have been moved to jail.
He was currently in the judicial custody for his alleged involvement in the bomb explosion at the Ramananda Chowk of Janakpur.
Sah, earlier, had faced a 21-month jail term for arms and ammunition case.
KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) today issued a show-cause notice to the government to produce Hemanta Prakash Oli, a leader of the ‘Biplav’-led Nepal Communist Party within three days to court.
A single of the Chief Justice, Cholendra Shumsher JBR issued the order on the hearing of habeas corpus writ filed by Oli’s daughter, Bipana. The order demands the government to be present at the court with Oli and his associate, Ram Karki.
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli secured 20 unit shares of the Trishuli III B hydropower project.
The project has been launched under the government’s ‘People’s Hydropower Program’.
His spouse Radhika Shakya secured 20 units. PM Oli and Shakya had applied for 10,000 units of share each.
The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation announced the decision to allocate the project’s shares to the applicants.
Similarly, Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun secured 20 units, while his spouse and former Speaker Onsari Gharti received 20 shares. Secretary of the Ministry, Dinesh Kumar Ghimire got 20 units.
Of the total applicants, 50,267 received 30 units of shares each, and 145,559 received 20 units of shares, according to Paras Mani Dhakal, chief executive officer of Global IME Capital.
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has reiterated the government’s priority on good governance and development.
PM Oli said there is no option to speedy and multi-dimensional development to realize the goal of ‘Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepalis’.
Inaugurating the 8th International Trade Fair 2019 organized by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in Kathmandu today, the Prime Minister dubbed Nepal as a country with abundant possibilities for development.
He expressed the commitment to give more priority to domestic investment. He, however, emphasized on giving equal priority to foreign investment and technology since domestic resources were not enough for the country’s development.
Prime Minister Oli also assured the private sector that the government was willing to work in tandem with them.
Around 85 domestic stalls, and 90 stalls from China, 40 from Bangladesh, 10 from India, and two from Pakistan are kept in the exhibition that will run until April 1.
KATHMANDU: Indian Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale has paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali on Thursday.
In the meeting, Secretary Gokhale and Minister Gyawali discussed issues related to bilateral interest between the two countries . Earlier, Indian Foreign Secretary Gokhale held a meeting with his counterpart Shanker Das Bairagi.
Indian diplomat arrived in Kathmandu this morning on a two-day official visit to Nepal 15 days after his appointment as the foreign secretary of India.
According to the Ministry of Affairs, Gokhale will also hold a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli .
In a bid to quell the activities of the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), police have arrested a total of 185 of its cadres, including district-level leaders, in the last one fortnight.
After the government announced restriction on the party on March 12, security forces, in recent times, have intensified search and arrest operations against the leaders and cadres of the ‘Bilpav’-led outfit.
Police on Thursday arrested Dip Kumar Gharti alias Samrat, deputy chief of the people’s council, Nawalpur, two days after they arrested Ramji Acharya, Chairman of All Nepal Teacher’s Organization of Rupandehi from his house at Rudrapur on Tuesday through their intelligence-based approach.
On the same day, several leaders and cadres, including Bheri Bureau Chief Dan Bahadur Fadera and former people’s government chief Santosh Basnet from Banke, landed in police net in separate operations.
Chief of the District Police Office, Banke, Superintendent of Police, Arun Poudel informed that six leaders of the Biplav outfit were arrested from different places of the district. These are a few representative incidences.
According to Spokesperson of the Nepal Police, Uttam Raj Subedi, police have so far arrested one hundred 85 cadres of the Biplav-led outfit, including Hemant Prakash Oli alias Sudarshan, mid-central command in-charge. He holds the highest rank among those arrested and is the third leader in hierarchy after Biplav and Prakanda – both of whom are underground.
Among others, police have arrested Krishna Kumar Shrestha alias Prajwal, Morang district in-charge.
Police arrested 22 Biplav-led party cadres from Kathmandu, 17 from Sindhupalchowk, 12 from Tanahun, 10 from Lalitpur, 9 from Kaski, 8 from Ilam, 7 from Chitwan, 6 each from Myagdi and Banke, 5 from Achham, 4 each from Saptari, Salyan, Sunsari, Solukhumbu, Bara, Rupandehi and Parsa, 3 each from Sarlahi, Kapilvastu, Kalikot, Dang, Nawalparasi East, Dhankuta, Pyuthan, Sankhuwasabha and Rolpa districts.
Likewise, police have arrested one each from Udayapur, Dolpa, Bhojpur, Ramechhap, Rukum West, Nawalparasi West, Rautahat, Lamjung, Panchthar, Makawanpur, Gorkha, Jhapa, Gulmi, Kailali, Dhading, Terhathum, Morang and Nuwakot districts.
The government has alleged the Biplap-led faction of creating terror in different parts of the country.
KATHMANDU: Delhi Capitals has created a hope to pick Nepali leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane out of four overseas players for its third match of the IPL 2019 against Kolkata Knight Riders to be played at the latter’s home ground on Saturday.
The Delhi has posted a video on a Twitter, where Sandip is busy practicing. The video shows that Sandeep might have a chance to play in the third match.

Delhi had been keeping an eye on Sandeep as he played different T20 tournaments including the famous Big Bash League from Melbourne Stars. However, he was not included for the clash.
Delhi will be eyeing a win against Mumbai led by Rohit Sharma that has clinched the IPL title thrice. Delhi that was knocked out form the Group Stage last season is hopeful for a flying start in the tournament.
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has got 20 units of shares of the total 10,000 units of shares he had applied for under the Upper Trishuli-3 ‘B’ hydro project.
Oli had applied for 10,000 units of shares under the much-hyped people’s hydro-power project that had been announced publically.
The shares were allocated at the Ministry of Energy amid a special program today. A large number of applicants had applied for shares.
As many as 104,292 applicants have received 20 units of shares each while 50, 267 applicants have got 30 units of shares each, a source at the ministry said.
A total of 154, 624 people had applied for 64,552,900 units of shares.
