DHADING: Police arrested a person in possession of a huge cache of contraband narcotics from Gajuri in Dhading district.
A team from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of Nepal Police and Area Police Office, Gajuri, arrested Sukumaya Tamang of Gajuri, police informed.
The police team seized 110 kg of hashish, 32 kg of powder used to prepare hashish, 390 kg of marijuana mixed powder and 109 kg of marijuana seeds.
The contraband was kept at Tamang’s house. A case would be filed against Tamang, according to police.
KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense, Ishwor Pokhrel met with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the latter’s office in New York.
On the occasion, Minister Pokhrel conveyed Nepal’s readiness to contribute its troops in the UN peacekeeping missions. He also underscored Nepal’s peace transformation with the success of home-grown peace process, and thanked the UN for its support.
On the occasion, Guterres thanked Nepal for being UN’s reliable partner in its efforts in maintaining international peace and security.
Guterres also appreciated Nepal’s role in multi-dimensional UN peace operations.
BIRGUNJ: Ghantaghar area in Birgunj remained tense with students chanting slogans in protest of the earlier disclosure of social studies question paper of SEE examination beginning today.
The Examination Control Office of the State-2 held an emergency meeting after the question paper went viral through social media. The Board took the decision to cancel the examination of the social studies scheduled for Friday after it was confirmed that question paper was ‘out’ prior to the examination.
However, students have staged demonstration against the Board’s decision to cancel today’s examination. Agitating students are still chanting slogans against the decision before the District Administration Office, Parsa.
Students have vandalized the sign board reading ‘Educate daughters; protect daughters’ installed by the State-2 government at Ghantaghar in Birgunj. Irate crowd also pulled down a traffic beat equipped with solar lamp and traffic signs at Ghantaghar. In addition, the mob has enforced arbitrary shutdown in Birgunj Bazaar.

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that Nepal is a virgin land for investment.
Inaugurating the summit at Soaltee Crowne Plaza in the capital on Friday, Prime Minister Oli said, Nepal is a virgin land where immense opportunities are awaiting your investment to uplift the living standard of 30 million honest and hardworking people.
Addressing the summit, Oli said the environment is stable and remains fully committed to protecting your investment with assured profit.
“There is a conducive environment now following the promulgation of the constitution and the successful conduction of the three tiers of the elections – federal, provincial and local,” Oli said, urging the guests to explore and share the abundant opportunities Nepal can offer.
Stating that Nepal is a second home and a place of your constant interest, and a hub of your business, Oli urged the guests to jointly explore and share the investment opportunities that Nepal can offer.
Tourism, hydropower, infrastructures including roads and agriculture are the sectors potential for investment, said Oli.
Nepal government is hopeful that the summit will bring an investment of over Rs 30 trillion in the country through 77 different projects.

SURKHET: The District Police Office Surkhet has arrested two members of Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party.
Acting on a special tip-off, police rounded up Tirtha Bahadur Khadka, 62, a Surkhet District Committee member of the outfit and Goma Khadka Oli, 40, a central committee member of its All Revolutionary Women Association, shared Spokesperson of District Police Office Surkhet DSP Pradeep Bahadur Chhetri.
He further said that investigation into the arrested has initiated. Surkhet Police has intensified search for leaders and cadres of the group.
KATHMANDU: The much-hyped International Investment Summit 2019 is taking place in the capital from today.
Nepal will be showcasing 77 projects – 50 from the government side and 27 from private sector – in the summit to be participated by over 600 guests from 40 countries.
Nepal is hopeful that the two-day summit will bring investment worth over Rs 30 trillion through 77 projects in the country.
However, the government’s expectation seems a bit ambitious given the statistics of foreign investment it received over the last three years. Nepal received foreign investment worth Rs 37 billion during the period which is far less than what was expected.

KATHMANDU: Dhanusha District Court has slapped a life imprisonment on seven individuals including former Minister of State for Physical Infrastructure Sanjaya Sah alias ‘Takala’ for his involvement in Janakpur Bomb explosion case.
A single bench of judge Rajesh Kumar Katuwal issued a verdict sentencing Sah to life in prison on Thursday, a report in Nagarik daily said.
A murder case had been filed against them. The others sentenced to life in prison include Jaya Prakash Chaudhary, Mukesh Karna, Suresh Karna, Rajan Mukti, Mukesh Chaudhary and Jaya Prakash Chaudhary.
KATHMANDU: Manpower agents have fleeced a dozen people including two lawmakers of millions of rupees by promising them American visas.
Lawmakers Amar Bahadur Thapa and Seeta Nepali of Karnali Province had applied for visa at the America Embassy after they were invited to take part in a program on Women Violence and Chhaupadi to be organized in California, a report in Kantipur daily said.
The lawmakers came to know to have been cheated only after their visas were rejected by the embassy.
KATHMANDU: The Biplav-led Nepal Communist Party has raised serious concern over what it said ‘series of fictitious and baseless’ news reports aimed at defaming the party.
Issuing a statement today, the party said ‘planned’ news reports have been disseminated against the party.
“Disseminating fake news aimed at tarnishing the party’s image is not journalism,” the party statement said.
The party has also urged all media houses to refrain from disseminating fake news against the party.
