RUPANDEHI: Former Prime Minister and Coordinator of the Naya Shakti Party Nepal Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has stressed on all-inclusive participatory development.
He was addressing the 2ndMagar National Council Conference in Butwal on Saturday. The former prime minister stressed on a development environment should be enabled in such a way that all sections of the society can realize a change in society.
Honorary Consul General of Republic of Portugal Rajendra Khetan has been awarded for his special contribution.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali on Saturday honored his contribution with an award at a function organized by Honorary Consular Corps Nepal.
Khetan, who is the founder Vice President of Nepal France Friendship Society, was awarded on Saturday amid a program at Chandragiri at the presence of Minister for Foreign Affairs Gyawali, MoFA Secretary Shankar Bairagi, ambassadors, among others.
The Nepal France Friendship Society was established in 2017.
Khetan served as dean of Honorary Consular Corps Nepal from 2017-18.
KATHMANDU: An abandoned British national Philips Malcolm died while receiving treatment at the Thapathali-based Norvic Hospital on Saturday. A doctor at the hospital confirmed his death. Malcolm breathed his last after his blood circulation dropped and he faced difficulty in breathing, according to the doctor.
Earlier he was left high and dry at the Emergency Ward of Bir Hospital. After Khabarhub carried out a news about the British national languishing at the hospital, a team of youths had taken him to Kathmandu Medical College and then to Norvic Hospital.
During a conversation with Khabarhub, Malcolm had expressed his desire to die in his own country which remained unfulfilled.
Malcolm was first admitted to the Teku-based Sukraraj Tropical & Infectious Disease Hospital some two weeks ago where he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C.
KATHMANDU: Five members of the same family were arrested from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) with illegal currency notes.
Police took hold of the team leaving for Bangkok with the illegal currency notes during a checkup.
The arrested are Subas Shrestha, 48, and his wife Umadevi Shrestha. Police also held their four-year-old and 14-year-old daughters and an 11-year-old son.
SSP Sandeep Bhandari said they were leaving for Bangkok through a flight of Thai Airways. Police recovered 21,150 Thai Baht, Euro 1,380, USD 10,000 and Chinese Yuan 80,000.
KATHMANDU: Prakash Raut, a resident of Jamirgadi, Mechinagar Municipality-15, Jhapa, died from the lightning that occurred on Saturday morning.
Similarly, Sunita Raut, Manju Raut of the same municipality and Sumitra Bhattarai of Rupakot Majhuwagadi Municipality-1 of Khotang were injured in the incident.
They are receiving treatment at local hospitals, the National Emergency Operation Centre informed.
KATHMANDU: Traffic police are all set to act against the encroachment on road pavements inside the Kathmandu Valley.
The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division is intervening to prevent the pavement encroachment under the recently implemented ‘traffic management and pollution control improvement action plan-2075’.
In collaboration with several bodies/organizations, footpath shops and parking lots remaining along the Old Baneshwor –Sinagmangal; Pinglasthan-Gaushala Chowk; around the Koteshwor; New Baneshwor- Old Baneshwor; Tripureshwor- Kalanki; Chabahil- Jorpati; and Thapathali-Lagankhel routes will be removed.
According to Division’s senior superintendent of police, Basanta Kumar Panta, the campaign which has been in force since April 4 aims to make the traffic system efficient and well-managed.
KANCHANPUR: The vulture population is on the rise in Kanchanpur district in recent years. There has been a significant surge in the number of vultures thanks to the increasing public awareness on the need of conserving the bird.
With the protection of their habitat, the birds known as nature’s cleaner vultures have started building nests in areas close to human settlements and roosting.
According to Hirulal Chaudhary who works with Bird Conservation Nepal, 12 vultures have been found roosting in areas close to the Tarapur post of the Shuklaphanta National Park, six in Hirapur Phanta and eight in Bansaha, the buffer zone of the national park.
These many vultures’ nests were found in the course of a vulture survey conducted recently. The highest number of vultures’ nests has been found at Parsia at the Laljhadi Mohana conservation area. As many as 21 vulture nests were counted in this area.
Chaudhary said two vulture chicks which were found in the area in sick condition are being treated. “Vultures get sick mostly during winter but they slowly recuperate. Usually, the chicks which are learning to fly get hurt and fall sick,” he said.
As per the survey conducted by the Society, 119 vultures were found in Kanchanpur last year. Chaudhary said the number might have increased this year and reached between 150 and 200.
Twenty three species of vultures are found in the world while only nine species are found in Nepal. Seven species of vultures are found in Kanchanpur.
DOTI: A total of 603 people have received the citizenship certificates at the Adarsha rural municipality in the district.
Tek Bahadur Rokaya, chairman of the rural municipality said that 624 people obtained the voter’s identity cards from the camp while 68 were rendered the health services, 934 the agriculture-related services and 448 visited the camp for the livestock services.
On the same occasion, 244 students of the Sharada Secondary School, Mauwa were awarded the scholarship. According to Chief District Officer Yadav Subedi, the camp was held for the convenience of those unable to visit the district headquarters to seek services due to several reasons.
Free transportation service was available for the people of Girichauki of Adarsha rural municipality-6 which is relatively far way than other areas from the location where the camp was organised.
The three-day camp was organised by the District Administration Office, Doti in coordination of the rural municipality.
MAHOTTARI: Property worth Rs 3 million was destroyed in a fire that broke out at a printing house in Jaleshwar Saturday morning. The fire at the Pashupati printing house at Mahendrachowk in ward no. 2 of Jaleswar municipality occurred due to a short circuit at around 5:30 am, according to the District Police Office, Mahottari.
A flex printer machine, and other printing equipment, materials, furniture and other goods were completely destroyed in the fire, said Superintendent of Police Iswar Karki.
The printing house is owned by one Surendra Shaha. A fire fighter from Jaleswar municipality, locals and police worked together to contain the blaze.
KATHMANDU: The latest data has shown that foreign investment in the industrial is declining in Nepal.
The foreign investment in the industrial has decreased by 67.16 percent compared to the previous year, according to the statistics maintained by the Department of Industry.
The Department of Industry had approved the foreign investment of Rs 35,222,570,000 in the fiscal year 2017/18 while it has come down to Rs 11,563,920,000 in the existing fiscal year 2018/19.
However, the number of registration of foreign companies is on the increase, of late. A total of 216 companies had been registered in the previous year while the number has increased to 266 in the current fiscal year.
