DARCHULA: A person died and two others sustained critical injuries when a landslide occurred at Ratakatha of under-construction Darchula-Tinkar road in Duhun Rural Municipality-3.
Raghubir Singh Dhami, 39, of Naugad Rural Municipality-4, Sipti died on the spot when the landslide occurred this morning buried him, shared Rabindra Kathayat, Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP).
The landslide buried Dhami to death while he was herding the cattle to Byas area from Khalanga, for grazing.
The injured are Mansingh Thagunna of Naugad-4 and Udharo Thagunna of ward-3.
It may be noted that the explosives were blasted on Darchula-Linker road section on Monday.
Dinesh Raikhola, engineer at the Darchula-Linker road project, shared that the road widening drive was gaining full momentum.
DHANGADHI: The Province Assembly of the Sudurpashchim Province on Monday passed a motion of thanks to Prime Minister KP Oli for his address to the assembly.
Prime Minister Oli had on February 20 addressed the state assembly of Sudurpaschim where he stated that the government was able to implement federal democratic republicanism in the country in a period of one year.
KATHMANDU: A huge number of foreigners come to Nepal for employment in a stark contract to over 40,000 Nepali youths leaving the country for abroad jobs on a monthly basis.
According to the record maintained by various outsourcing companies, there is demand of over 300,000 youths in the internal job markets annually. Youths from India, Bangladesh and China come to Nepal for jobs.
Over 900,000 workers enter Nepal annually to engage in various sectors ranging from construction to technology, and working as vegetable vendors.
Currently, there are different companies and institutions providing over 80,000 jobs to the Nepali youths in the country, shared Mahesh Dahal, secretary at the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security.
“There is a demand of over 40,000 youths in the country,” Security Entrepreneurs Association Chairman Uddhav Dallakoti told Khabarhub, adding, “A Nepali youth does not need to go abroad to earn Rs 30,000 if the government manages internal employment.” He further said the number of youths coming to Nepal for jobs is increasing every year.
Saying that over 15,000 domestic workers are required on a monthly basis, he advised the government to introduce security, health and insurance policies to stop the mass exodus of the Nepali youths.

Outsourcing companies in Nepal have claimed that over 15,000 workers are currently working in the country. This number does not include those working on daily wages.
“The government is introducing plans to manage internal job markets. The job market is increasing. The number of foreign youths coming to Nepal for jobs also proves it,” said Dahal.
He further said that the government is doing homework to adjust Nepali youths in the internal job markets rather than importing foreigners.

Under this category, there are 150,000 security guards, 500,000 workers in factories and industries, 500,000 in restaurants, 300,000 in domestic sector while the rest are engaged in other sector.
Sector requiring many workers
The highest demand of youths in Nepal are domestic workers. The demand of domestic workers is around 150,000, with 90,000 in hotels and restaurants, and 80,000 in tea production.
The government has categorized jobs into four categories – security workers, facilitators, domestic workers and secretaries. A minimum wage for these workers has been fixed at Rs 14,000.
The recently introduced contribution-based Social Security Scheme will provide job security to those working in the private sector, said Dahal.
The government can end the obligatory foreign employment in the next five years by properly managing internal job markets, say labor experts.
Given the demand of 300,000 youths in the country, annually, we can make our country prosperous through the proper management of internal job markets, say government officials.
KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has booked 171 vehicles for breaching the rule of ‘no-horn’. The no-horn rule has been implemented in the Kathmandu Valley since April 14, 2017. The division has taken this campaign in order to control noise pollution.
Basant Panta, Chief at Division and Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) said that honking has been completely banned except at risky road turnings. The Division has taken action against 30,468 vehicles for breaching the rule after the implementation of the rule. Each vehicle has been charged a fine of Rs 500 for violating the rule.
Noise pollution causes loss of hearing , hypertension, memory loss, cardiovascular effects, including heart-attack risk and respiratory problems. The disabled, children, senior citizens and expectant mothers are more vulnerable to the effects of noise pollution.
KATHMANDU: Visiting American Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South and Southeast Asia, Joseph Felter on Monday held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Ishwor Pokhrel.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Defense at Singha Durbar, Felter reiterated USA’s continued support to Nepal’s development and prosperity endeavor.
The duo also on further consolidating Nepal-US ties in the recent changed context. Talking to journalists after the meeting, Minister Pokhrel said that he apprised the visiting American Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense about Nepal’s new national security policy, among other issues.
Maintaining that the US government has in the past supported during hard times, DPM Pokhrel, however, told Felter that Nepal will not participate in any international and regional military alliances.
On the occasion, Minister Pokhrel also stated that Nepal will continue to cooperate with the USA to enhance the military ties between the two countries.
DHADING: Two women died and another injured when a Bolero jeep knocked them down at Galchhi Rural Municipality of Dhading today, police said.
The vehicle ran over the three women when they were sitting nearby a local shop.
According to DSP Prakash Bista, the jeep bearing registration number Ba 20 Cha 6221 knocked down Jamuna Bhujel, 35, of Galchhi Rural Municipality-4 and Kanchhi Tamang, 46, of ward 5.
Bhujel died on the spot while Tamang died during the treatment.
Likewise, injured Dhan Kumari Tamang of Galchhi has been admitted to Patan Hospital for treatment. The driver is absconding, police said.
KATHMANDU: The Independent Transport Workers Association of Nepal (ITWAN) is mulling over to provide training to 48,000 drivers and their helpers of public vehicles with an objective of reducing the number of road accidents.
ITWAN is going to launch the campaign with the help of some trained drivers and their helpers.
Bhim Jwala Rai, ITWAN chairman said that it is important to provide training to the drivers as number of people dying in road accidents is on the rise. “We will impart training to the drivers and assistant drivers of all provinces on road discipline and traffic rules which will help reduce road accidents,” he said.
The ITWAN has mobilized it’s all organizations across the nation for the campaign. The organization would paste stickers reading ‘I’m a responsible transport worker,’ ‘I do not use mobile phone while driving’ and ‘I follow traffic rules’ in all public vehicles under the campaign. Similarly, the ITWAN would organize health camp for transport workers, where they could undergo tests for blood pressure, diabetes, eyes and kidney, free of cost.
Basanta Panta, Chief of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division informed that around 2,500 to 3,000 people lose their lives in road accidents every year. Panta seems hopeful that the campaign would be fruitful to reduce the road accidents.
According to the Department of Transport Management records, 3.2 million vehicles are now in operation across the country while 900,000 operate in Kathmandu valley alone.
KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has developed a plan for underground electric cables in Kathmandu Valley in a bid to minimize the risk of electric shocks and maintain the urban beauty. In the first phase, NEA has chosen the areas covered by the Maharajgunj Distribution Centre and Ratnapark Distribution Centre for the cable under grounding project.
NEA has selected Indian company KP Industries Ltd to undertake the project. Overhead cables of electricity, telecommunications and others have spoiled the urban beauty, increasing the risk of accidents. The new project aims to address these problems, according to NEA central and north (Maharajgunj) project chief Abhishek Adhikari. The total cost of the project is over Rs 6.60 billion.
The works need to be completed within the 30 months of project initiation. During the first phase, the project will be implemented at Bagbazar, Asan, and Durbar Marg area. Once the first phase of the project gets completed, around 9,000 clients of both centres will get smart meters which will replace meter readers. Customers themselves will determine the quantity of power they need .
SAPTARI: Police arrested two men on the charge of raping a 20-year-old girl in the district.
The culprits have been identified as Bhim Mukhiya and Bharat Mukhiya of Kanchanrup Municipality-5.
The duo have been accused of luring the differently-abled girl and raping her by taking her to the Koshitappu Wildlife Reserve.
KATHMANDU: Karin Kneissl, Austria’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, flew to Bhutan today after completing her three-day official visit to Nepal.
She had arrived in Kathmandu on a three-day visit at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.
While in Kathmandu, she announced an economic and technical assistance on behalf of the Austrian government for the conservation efforts of the Lalitpur Durbar Square.
On Friday, she held a delegation-level bilateral meeting with Minister Gyawali. She also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Oli the same day.
