LALITPUR: Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) is going to launch a satellite in the space on the 17th April. “Preparations are underway to launch Nepalisat-1, the first satellite of Nepal in the space which shall orbit the earth at the height of 400 km from its surface,” said Sano Babu Shrestha, NAST vice chancellor. Having a satellite of its own shall save the cost for Nepal in obtaining various data.
KATHMANDU: Nepal Army marked its Army Day by organizing special programs at Tundikhel in the capital on Monday.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari received an armed salute offered by a Nepal Army squad on the occasion.
The Army Day kicked off with celebratory fires from rifles and cannons while soldiers presented march-past amid cultural dances by artistes clad in tradition attires.
Some professional items of military showmanship including horse riding and parachuting were also demonstrated at Tundikhel on the occasion.
General Directorate of Army Aviation of Nepal Army demonstrated helicopters and helicopter banners, weapons, armored vehicles among others.
Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Oli, speaker, chairman of National Assembly, deputy prime ministers, ministers, highly-placed government officials, chiefs of security agencies, diplomats among others were present on the occasion. ‘
Nepal Army has been celebrating Army Day on the occasion of Mahashivaratri since 1991.
KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court demanding that the government ensure immediate protection of stray cows and oxen in Kathmandu.
Advocate Padam Bahadur Shrestha filed the writ at the highest court naming Office of the Prime Minister, Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and the Department of Livestock Services, among others as defendants.
Shrestha, in his petition, has demanded to put an end to the ill-treatment and cruelty towards the stray cattle, especially the cows and oxen and urged the government to protect them from diseases and hunger and provide them with safe shelters.
The petition mentions that the Constitution of Nepal’s Article 9 (3) declares cow as the national animal of Nepal.
Stating that a cow is the national animal of Nepal and is worshiped as Laxmi during Tihar and that oxen are worshiped during Gobardan Puja, Shrestha has drawn the attention of the concerned authorities to take immediate actions to keep the faith intact.
KATHMANDU: A Nepal Army soldier, who was paragliding during a showmanship on the occasion of Nepal Army Day at Tundikhel, has met with an accident on Monday.
The injured is Corporal Purna Bahadur Bhandari. Injured Bhandari has been rushed to National Trauma Center. An NA squad rushed him to the hospital in an ambulance after rescue.
The paraglider had fallen on the road near General Post Office, Sundhara while he was parachuting on the occasion.
KATHMANDU: Hindu devotees have thronged Pashupatinath Temple and shivalayas across the country on the occasion of Mahashivaratri on Monday.
Pashupati Development Trust has kept all the major four doors open to the devotees since 3 am today. Hundreds of devotees have been lining up since early morning to pay homage to the god Pashupati. A total of five lines have been arranged leading to major entrances of the Pashupati Temple.
As per the arrangement, two begin from Mitrapark and Gaurighat leading to the north entrance via Umakunda-Dakshinmurti-Rudragadeshwar, one line leading to the western door via Jayabageshwari-Itapakha-Bhuwaneshwari and other two lines start from Batisputali, Gaushala and Airport leading to the southern door via Pingalasthan-Sumargi building-Panchadewal.

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has said his government would take necessary initiative for Nepal Army’s capacity building.
Issuing a message on the occasion of Army Day, Prime Minister Oli expressed the confidence that the Nepal Army being the government’s important organ, it will play a significant role to achieve national goals.
PM Oli further stated that the Nepal Army should carry out works as per the sentiments of national campaign ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’.
He maintained that the role and contribution of the Nepal Army to nation building will be remembered forever. “I want to appreciate Nepal Army’s patriotism and dedication,” PM Oli said.
He has also extended his gratitude to all the army personnel undertaking rescue operation with high morale and enthusiasm.
JANAKPUR: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has alleged the government of failing to fulfil people’s aspiration in the last one year.
Deuba came down heavily on the government of involving in publicity rather than work while speaking at a program in Janakpur today.
NC President Deuba said the government was acting in a way intended to weaken federalism.
On the occasion, he claimed that the Nepali Congress has been playing an effective role of an opposition.
POKHARA: A Romanian national died while paragliding from Sarangkot of Pokhara this afternoon.
Ede Csis, 42, who crashed into the Phewa Lake, succumbed to injuries in the course of treatment at the Metro City Hospital in Pokhara.
The para-glider was rescued by a rescue team and taken to the hospital where he breathed her last, police said.
She had started the paragliding from Sarangkot and fell into the Phewa Lake at around 11:00 am.
Police said, the inability to keep balance has been blamed for the accident.
SARLAHI: An unidentified group shot dead a local youth in Malangawa, the district headquarters last night. The deceased is identified as Manoj Yadav, 31, according to the District Police Office, Sarlahi.
Yadav was found dead near a cold storage in ward no. 8 of the municipality by locals. Police has recovered bullet shells from the incident site.
Yadav had reportedly left home last night at around 9:00 after receiving a phone call, according to his sister. Police is investigating the incident, according to the Superintendent of Police, Ganesh Chandra Bhattarai.
KATHMANDU: The body of the Senior Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leader and the former Deputy Prime Minister, Bharat Mohan Adhikari is placed at the central party office in Dhumbarai for paying last tribute to the departed soul.
Mortal coil of Adhikari will remain at the party office from nine in the morning to 12 O’clock of the day. His final rites will be performed at Aryaghat, Pashupati today itself, said a source at the party office adding that sorrow has engulfed the party by the loss of its senior leader.
