2 killed, 4 injured in Dolakha bus accident Published on: March 15, 2019

 

DOLAKHA: Two people have died while 4 others sustained critical injuries when a bus carrying workers met with an accident at Naya Road of Bigu Rural Municipality in the district on Friday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Dinesh Thapa, 38, of Chaukune Rural Municipality-3, Surkhet and Hari Prasad Mijar, 44, of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality, Lamjung, said police.

The condition of the four among those injured is critical. They have been rushed to Kathmandu while the others are undergoing treatment at the district hospital Charikot.

The accident took place when the bus, Ba 4 Kha 4573, was ferrying the workers to the construction site of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydro Project.

A total of 25 passengers were travelling in the ill fated bus. The bus skidded off and fell some 30 meters down the road.

 

 

 

Nepse up by 5 points Published on: March 15, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) went up by 5 points on Thursday,  the last trading day of the week.

The benchmark index increased by 5.4 points to close at 1155.50 points. Similarly, the Sensitive Index, that majors the transactions of big companies, went up by 1.36 points to settle at 246.10 points.

A total of 1,339,972 units of shares of 171 companies worth Rs. 485,877,931 were traded yesterday.

 

Two trucks torched in Nawalparasi Published on: March 14, 2019

NAWALPARASI: Two trucks were torched at Tulasipur Chok of Sarawal rural municipality-1 as part of the strike called by Netra Bikram Chand aka ‘Biplav’ Nepal Communist Party, today.

An unidentified group set ablaze two parked trucks, according to the police.

The strike has disrupted normal life in the district, affecting educational institutions and transportation the most.

Biplav cadres set bus ablaze in Kailali Published on: March 14, 2019

DHANGADHI: The cadres of Netra Bikram Chand aka ‘Biplav’ led Nepal Communist Party torched a passenger bus  here in the district on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred in the Rajipur jungle of Kailali district.

A total of 12 members playing musical instruments for a marriage ceremony were travelling in the bus. All the passengers as well as bus driver and helper are safe. The bus was heading towards Bhimduttanagar from Bhajani.

Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Kailali, Aabhushan Timsina said that an unidentified group comprising nine people torched the bus (Ma 1 Kha 441) by sprinkling diesel on it at 4 am.

Bomb resembling objects terrify locals Published on: March 14, 2019

MORANG: Suspicious objects resembling a bomb has terrorized locals at Rural Municipality Kanepokhari ward no – 2. The locals upon spotting two objects that looked like pressure cooker bomb had informed the police.

Similarly, a suspicious object was also spotted at Gaindakot Municipality-9.

Govt-Raut deal constitutional: Minister Pandit Published on: March 14, 2019

JANAKPURDHAM: The deal sealed between the government and CK Raut deal is as per the spirit of the constitution, said Lal Babu Pandit, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration.

Addressing a press conference here today Minister Pandit clarified that the essence of the word people’s opinion mentioned in the agreement does not mean the referendum whereas it rather means general election.

He added that such issues would be resolved through election and democratic practices.

On another note, he said that the government did not want war with Biplav-led party. He also shared that the civil servants adjustment process will be completed within 15 days.

 

23 Nepali youths rescued Published on: March 14, 2019

KATHMANDU: Total 23 Nepalis were rescued from various places in Malaysia by the Nepali Embassy in Malasiya.

The embassy arranged for the safe return to the home country by providing air tickets.

The embassy sources have stated that the embassy was working seriously to return back the workers who were stranded and were facing difficulties to return home.

President Bhandari attends reception in NY Published on: March 14, 2019

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari attended a reception hosted in her honor on in New York Wednesday evening.

Arjun Kumar Karki, Nepal’s Ambassador to the United States and Amrit Kumar Rai, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, jointly hosted a reception to honour the President.

She is in New York in the course of attending the 63rd session of the Commission of the Status of Women (CSW-63)

Also present on the occasion were diplomatic community based in New York, UN office-bearers, business community people and representatives of Nepali community.

In the meanwhile, Dhnmaya Thapa, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen, delivered her speech in the CSW session.

On the occasion, Minister Thapa presented the progress Nepal has made in the area of gender equality and expressed Nepal’s further commitment to that end, according to New York-based Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the UN.

Informing that Nepal has made necessary amendments to relevant laws for ending gender discrimination, she expressed Nepal’s readiness to work in collaboration with international organizations for the empowerment of women and adolescents towards attaining Sustainable Development Goals.

Likewise, Nirudevi Pal, lawmaker and President of Women and Social Committee of the House of Representatives, stressed on the need of the full implementation of the Beijing Declaration.

 

Strike partially affects Pokhara Published on: March 14, 2019

POKHARA: Public transport and learning institutions are affected by the strike called by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Communist Party of Nepal today.

Also most of the shops in the city have remained closed. Suspicious objects were found at Shavagriha Chowk and Bhandardhik of Pokhara this morning.

A bomb disposal team disposed the suspicious materials, said Spokesperson of Kaski Police, Rabindraman Gurung.
