KATHMANDU: The State 3 government today decided to provide a relief assistance worth Rs 10 million to the victims of Sunday’s violent storm in Bara and Parsa.
An emergency meeting of the State Council of Ministers chaired by Chief Minister Dormani Poudel took a decision to this effect.
TANSEN: Property worth Rs 1.5 million was damaged by fire at Tansen of Palpa today.
The property was damaged after a cotton factory caught fire due to short circuit, police said.
The fire destroyed two machines, quilts and mattresses, among other stuff, said Ajay Chaudhary, proprietor of the cotton factory.
The fire was doused with the help of locals, and security personnel, police said.
KATHMANDU: Chairman of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Tuesday pledged to provide Rs 500,000 each to the families of those killed in Bara-Parsa windstorm.
Dahal pledged the assistance as he visited the Feta Rural Municipality in Bara district that was hardest-hit by the windstorm.
He also reached the Birgunj-based Narayani Sub-regional Hospital to take stock of the heath condition of those injured in the gale.
BUTWAL: It has been revealed that Sahin Khatun, the wife of Feroj Ansari, who was shot dead in Mainabagar of Rupandehi last Wednesday, was involved in her husband’s murder.
Police said Khatun was in love with her 42-year-old brother-in-law Sadhir Husein of Betiya, India that ultimately led to the murder of Ansari.
Sahin who had been living with her husband in Butwal for the last 20 years fell in love with her own brother-in-law, according to police report.
Sahir, who came to Butwan on Wednesday afternoon, had plotted to kill Ansari in cahoots with his sister-in-law and shot him dead in the evening upon his arrival from his office.
Rupandehi Police said they will coordinate with the Indian police to arrest the murder-accused Husein.
The victim, Feroz Khan, 45, was an employee at the Auto Village at Mainanagar, Butwal, police.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Lumbini Provincial Hospital.
KATHMANDU: Chandeshwor Shrestha, President’s candidate from Progressive, professional and Inclusive Group in Nepal Bar Association (NBA) election, an umbrella organization of legal practitioners, is leading the vote count.
The election of Association for new leadership had taken place across the nation on March 30.
Out of 502 votes counted till 1:20 pm today, Shrestha has received 352 votes. Similarly, Shrestha’s closest rival Sunil Kumar Pokharel from Democratic Group has got 258 votes, said Chief Election officer, Damodar Khadka.
Similarly, Surendra Bahadur Thapa, General Secretary candidate from Progressive Group, has acquired 336 votes while his closet rival, Leelamani Poudel from Democratic Group received 258 votes.
The vote counting has been taking place from 5:00 pm on Monday. Out of 10,313 voters from across the nation, 8329 had cast votes.
LUMBINI: Minister for Finance Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada today said government resources are not enough to undertake the Lumbini Development Master Plan.
He pledged to initiate on behalf of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) and the government to seek international community’s support for Lumbini’s development.
Minister Khatiwada, who visited Lumbini today, also stated that the government would cooperate with the LDT to realize its goal within the next three years.
On the occasion, he said the government lacks sufficient resources and budget required to implement the plan within the next three years.
He maintained that Lumbini being the world heritage site, needs international support for its management and promotion.
The minister also visited the Mayadevi Temple, and an under-construction meditation center, among other places in Lumbini.
KAPILVASTU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has flown to cyclone-hit Bara and Parsa districts to inspect damages caused by the freak storm.
Deuba, who stayed overnight in Lumbini after taking part in a party program in Kapilvastu yesterday, flew to the incident site in a helicopter on Tuesday.
He also visited Narayani Zonal Hospital, Birgunj to know the condition of the injured after inspecting the cyclone-battered sites.
Talking to journalists following his visit to the hospital, Deuba urged the government to send more doctors and health workers to the incident site to make rescue and relief operations more effective.
GORKHA: Some 1,000 people have been benefitted from a free health camp organized at Barpak Sulikot rural municipality-3 in Gorkha district.
Locals of Swara and Saurpani received health services in the two-day camp organized from Sunday by Karmaflights Foundation Nepal, Pokhara.
The health camp was supported by Barpak Sulikot rural municipality-3 Lions Club of Pokhara Sky Town, and Swara health post.
KATHMANDU: Runway rehabilitation has begun at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in a full-fledged manner since last night. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), which is the regulatory body of aviation sector, has been entrusted for the up-gradation of the runway.
Sitaram Bhandari, Chief at the Air Traffic Controller (ATC), informed that the landing and takeoff of flights have not been disturbed. According to him, a Narrow Body Airbus of Nepal Airlines landed at the TIA this morning while and Jet Airbus took off of its first flight.
Domestic flights are also being operated smoothly from the airport.
The TIA has been closed for 10 hours a day for the next three months from April 1 for rehabilitation. Around 80 meters of the runway have been blacktopped in the first day of renovation, according to Baburam Poudel, Director of Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project of CAAN.
The TIA would limit its service for 14 hours with the effect of renovation for the next three months.
The airport would remain open from 8.00 am to 10 pm every day during the rehabilitation. Earlier, the TIA was providing service from 6.00 am to 3.00 am.
In the course of rehab, the existing pitch of the runway would be removed and new pitch would be rehabilitated.
The CAAN had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese Company, China National Agro Technology International Engineering Corporation for up-gradation of runway. The agreement of Rs 3.75 billion was signed with the company for the blacktopping of runway.
KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Judicial Council is currently underway to make appointments in five vacant posts of the judges at the Supreme Court.
Sources claimed that the meeting is likely to appoint three judges from among the lawyers while the Chief Justice will nominate the rest two.
