I regret having to learn and read about prostitution in Nepal. I was not trying to learn about prostitution because I had a mission to accomplish, or I had a deadline to submit. I was just curious and I want to tell you how my research only lasted a few hours of watching youtube videos, some interviews and some articles. You can as well do that if you are interested but the real reason of the quest was the helplessness behind prostitution. I want to take you through the whole process of prostitution and also give my views on prostitution as well. I don’t know if I am in the right place to speak about it or not because it is nothing like we imagine, and it is beyond imagination. Even the real truth has not been discovered by anyone I have to say.
We all know what a prostitute is, we know what he/she does, we know where we can find them and we know what are their characteristics like. Those who have no idea, prostitute is in simple words is a person who gives his/her clients the sexual satisfaction for money, it is the transaction that takes place between a client and the prostitute. We can find them in the busiest streets and one of the famous place is known as Ratnapark. They look just like anyone of us because they are among us. According to the researches, they stand and wait in the street in search of their clients. Which is just half a truth, I will tell you why? Let me divide this whole topic into types of prostitution in Nepal where I will explain in details all the aspect of prostitution as much as I can and as much as I know. Help yourself if you have any more information.
Prostitution in first, is not only business for men and by women. Both the gender of the society are equally in guilt for the business here. I don’t know why but, it is wrong to be a prostitute. It is wrong of course if someone forces you to, but if someone wants to then it should not be considered wrong is what I mean. Prostitution has been considered legal in many countries and there have been areas that have been allocated for prostitutes. As I have heard numerous times, some people sell their brain some sell their muscles and some sell their body. If a person is okay with selling their body then they should be given equal rights and equal respect as the one who buys them. It is a lot better than rape and many other criminal activities but it comes with a price and everyone has their own battles to fight and so do they.
There are three types of prostitution business running in Nepal:
1. Individual Prostitution: Here, a prostitute is alone and they themselves look for their client and serves them. There is nothing in between like no agents. The main reason of this kind of prostitution is ofcourse poverty. Selling their body seems to be the best they can do and it can be anyone who is standing in the streets and lane let that be men or women.
2. Agent and Guest House Owners: This kind of prostitution is wildly popular. There are agents who are supplying the customers with prostitutes. There are guesthouses which employs people in the name of other jobs and forcefully makes them sleep with people. Here, the main reason of the prostitution is of course the poverty and the trafficking agents which manipulates men and women in to this business.
3. Well educated and well groomed: In this kind of prostitution, the prostitutes are well educated, well groomed and are as smart as any one could be. You will not believe your eyes, but they sell their bodies and are involved in the act of prostitution. Here, they have their own links and agents which provides them with better clients and lifestyle. The main reason behind this is either the poverty, the desire or curiosity or the shattered past. Yes, people do chose this business in the aggression of their past.
Here, is a little insight to each and every kind of prostitutes in Nepal, they don’t chose to be prostitutes, they were not like okay I want to be a prostitute when I grow up. They also wanted a happy life with self respect in the society as everyone does. The situation that led them were beyond your imagination and it is rather easy for them to continue with their life that way than have another lifestyle. You might want to say why not quit their job, but it is as hard for you to quit yours it is that hard for them as well. The money doesnot come easy to them as well, there are agents who take their 75% of the labour and sometimes there are very aggressive clients who would rape and beat them up. It is not always the clients, sometimes it is the so-called aunthorities like police who would warn them to satisfy their needs for free. The raids which are conducted are the jelousy between the concerned parties, where nepotism plays its vital role. If you know someone from the higher authority, no raids can affect you. It is as political and as dramatic as you can think of.
However, there are woman from 15-55 which are prostitute and man form 25 above who are prostitute. Don’t blind yourself thinking only men have their needs, women want it as much as any men do. Yes, however there are many women compared to men who have been wither pushed to this circumstances, either compelled or threatened. They want to get married and what we call settled as well, but who will marry them right? They want to be looked at with respect as any human being would like but why would you respect them? They are as human as all of is. It is just they were misled and were compelled.
I believe there has to be red-light area for the one who wishes to carry on with their business. They should be asked where they want it and how they want it because it is they who owns the business. The laws has to be regulated and they should be provided with a liscence to do so. The one who wants to quit should be provided protection and employment opportunities and regular health checkups are to be carried out. They have the frustration in themselves, if they are infected with HIV in any case, you will be the victim of it as well. Remember, there is nothing that owns them and they own nothing as well. I havenot been able to say many things but it is all for now!
From the beginning of our civilization, the sun has been the center of attraction among all the observable cosmological bodies. The simple reason behind our curiosity about the sun is that it is the shiniest object in our sky. In a period of many centuries, from Copernican heliocentrism to Keppler’s planetary motion postulates and from Newton’s law of gravitation to general theory of relativity, our knowledge about sun and its motion became better and more accurate. Advancement of high resolution telescopes enabled us to observe different phenomena occurring on sun’s surface; Nuclear Physics guided us to know how energy is produced in its core; nevertheless, in my point of view, quantum theory of light brought a revolutionary change in our thinking about the sun. Before this theory, we just considered the sun as a source of heat and light which it gives us in the form of electromagnetic radiations, but this theory made us realize “No!, the sun is much more than being a prerequisite for life to sustain on our planet; it is an ultimate source for all kinds of energy.” According to the quantum theory, light ,we get from the sun, is quantized; it comes in small packets of energy called photons. Photons can excite an electron to a higher energy level and those excited electrons can be knocked out of the atomic lattice if provided sufficient amount of energy. This phenomena became the fundamental of a new kind of source of energy- Solar energy.
From the day the current electricity have been invented, its applications in every sector of the society have increased at tremendous rates. We have been doing a lot of research on just making the turbines move so that electricity is produced. We have tried everything we have around – coal (thermal) , rivers (hydroelectricity), hot springs( geothermal energy), sea (tidal energy), and radioactive elements (nuclear energy)- to produce electricity but none of them produces electric current directly like solar panels. Basically, solar panels are the clusters of photovoltaic cells. Different kinds of phtotvoltaic cells( PV Cells) – mono-crystalline and poly-crystalline silicon(first generation solar cells); Thin film based (second generation solar cells); organic , quantum dots, and perovskite (third generation solar cells) – are available at present. Photovoltaic cells have different layers of n-type and p-type semiconductors. Photons having equal or higher energy than the band gap maintained between the layers of semiconductors excite the electrons in the valence band to conduction band creating electron-hole pairs. Because of forward biasing, the majority charges (electrons in in the n- type semiconductors and holes in p-type semiconductors) flow vigorously producing direct electric current between the electrodes. The inverter is used to convert the direct current into alternating current. The simple demonstration of forward biasing is shown in figure-1.0.
At the beginning of the 21st century, scientists had started to apprehend that the sources of energy we were using would be insufficient to accomplish the goals of the future: the goal to make the world coal and petroleum free, the goal to protect our earth and its biodiversity from global warming, and the goal to provide energy to everyone at affordable prices. An alternative of those sources was required to achieve these objectives and thus the market of solar panels started to incline exponentially. By the end of 2016, we had already had installed solar panels with a total capacity of 303 gigawatts. Because of the substantial investment in solar panels manufacturing, the price per watt for solar panels has decreased significantly. Today, the cost of solar power is approximately 0.25 dollars per watt.
Figure 2.0
Though, solar energy contributed only 1.3 percent of the global energy demand in 2016, it received the highest growth among all the energy resources. The figure 3.0 clearly implies that the world is looking forward to increase solar energy output in coming years. We have generally two distinctive ways to effectuate the target – financial and scientific. The first one is about promoting capital in solar energy. The present governments of many nations are providing subsidies as well as focusing on policies that encourage private sector to invest in solar energy. Easing the land acquisition for solar fields, promoting rooftop solar panels at local level, and sanctioning loans at lower interest rates are the part of economic prospect of fostering solar energy.
The other mechanism is to increase the efficiency of the solar panels so that we can get more yield consuming less number of solar panels and area of land, and reducing the labor demand and the cost of maintenance. Today, first generation solar cells are dominating the market of solar cells especially the poly-crystalline cells due to its cheaper rates, but it has only 13% efficiency in average. The scientists today are making efforts to produce third generation solar cells with efficiency above 40%. The problem with silicon solar cells is that is has only one and fixed band gap( energy gap between two layers of silicon); therefore, photons of only one wavelength excite the electrons and more than a half of the power of the light is wasted as heat. This heat also leads to extra wastage through black body radiation. In, multi-junction solar cells, multiple band gaps are available such that negligible portion of the incident light is wasted. Other different methods to increase solar panel efficiency are radiative cooling, anti-reflective coating, use of hydrophobic layer to protect them from dust, and minimizing shading of solar panels. Advance researches are going on around the world to make the third generation solar cells cheaper and more efficient in producing energy than their conventional counterparts.
Let’s come to the second topic of the discussion- Nepal’s prosperity. Everyone is familiar with the fact that Nepal’s progress has not been able to complement Nepal’s potential. The biggest reason I can say is inability of our country to explore its resources and promote science and technology. If the amount of money we expend on importing goods every year is invested on substituting the old-fashioned methods we are still using in manufacturing, energy and agriculture with advance techniques and machinery, we won’t need to wait for decades to see our country having a trade surplus rather than a trade deficit of billions of rupees as seen in the present circumstances.
Talking about the current scientific energy production in Nepal, I can only think about the hydro power. From primary school, we are habituated to discuss about the number “83,000 MW” capacity of hydroelectricity which in reality is nothing more than a rumor. Neither the government nor people of Nepal actually ever focused on the fact that Nepal is located in a subtropical region as well as on a high altitude, and it receives average radiation of 4.7Kwh per square metre per day. A large hydroelectricity can make us reach few hundreds of megawatts of electricity, but provided that we are able to set up large solar fields with high-efficient solar panels and connect them to national grid ( high-voltage electricity connection of a nation), we can produce energy in gigawatts. According to Dr. Govinda Raj Pokhrel (ex-Executive Director of Alternative Energy Promotion Center(AEPC)), we can produce 2920 Gwh of energy per year just by using 0.01% land of Nepal for solar panels. Employing the costless power of the sun through solar panels, we also can get rid of the possible adverse effects of hydro power – degradation of aquatic ecosystem, increase in probability of catastrophic events like soil erosion and flood, emission of carbon dioxide and methane, and displacement of hundreds of people. Moreover, installation of rooftop solar panels can play a critical role in promotion of small-scale industries in rural areas of Nepal.
The government with overhyped proudness recently declared Nepal a “load shedding” free country,” but I am acutely unsatisfied with this announcement . The contention of the government officials that we are not facing a power cut because we are producing huge amount of energy is unquestionably false; the factual thing is we don’t have enough assets to have a big demand of energy. Still, around 60% of Nepalese households are dependent on forest wood and dung for cooking. In 2016, Nepal imported petroleum products worth 566 million US dollars for running transportation. Lighting a bulb at home and moving an fan can not be called absolute electrification. Our country will be a electrified country when it will be a gasoline and smoke free country which will only happen when every industry, every vehicle and every house in Nepal will completely operate on green electricity.
The figure 4.0 clearly shows that about Nepal is heavily dependent on conventional resources, whereas figure 5.0 demonstrates that we consume very less amount of energy in comparison to other countries in Asia. This is a proof that our industrial, agriculture and business sectors are still in inferior stage. The same survey says that 80% of energy in Nepal is consumed by households which again authenticate the very conclusion.
Figure-4
Figure-5
Now, the question arises that whether solar energy can change the current picture of energy in Nepal or not. The answer is a big “Yes.” The success of projects like National Rural and Renewable Energy Program (NRREP) and Karnali Ujyalo are the proofs of my argument. These projects not only made thousands of people in rural areas of Nepal self-dependent in energy but also had an positive impact on their socioeconomic lives providing them the basic infrastructures to expand their occupations.
The figure-6.0 undoubtedly showcases that the rural districts are ranked at the top among all the districts in solar energy contribution to the total energy demand of a district. This is the achievement of the projects mentioned above. There is still a big space of extension in the field of solar energy in Nepal. We have to walk on the path on which our our neighboring countries – India and China, which were on first and seventh position respectively in 2016 on the basis of capacity of their solar power output – have been walking. In 2015, Nepal and the World Bank signed an agreement to invest 130 million USD to develop a 25 MW solar project in Nuwakot district that will eventually be connected to the national grid. It is the largest renewable energy plant planned in the country. Many projects like this are needed to be initiated in Nepal in coming years.
Recently, Nepal Electricity Association came with an brilliant idea: to buy the surplus electricity produced by solar panels of households and commercial sector and add them to the national grid. Because very few of them produce solar energy equal to their necessity or even less, this project has not been as fruitful as it was expected at the beginning. This shows that it is not true we do not have creative ideas like people of developed countries. We just lack the policy, technology and mindset to implement them. In our nation, people still have a thought process that science and technology is a stuff for extremely educated and trained personnel. We need to soon realize that the revolution in energy through solar power is only possible when the private sector and the educational institutions coordinate with the government. As per my observations, education sector in Nepal is utterly passive when it comes to subscribing to nation’s prosperity. In contrary, the universities and colleges of developed countries energetically assist their governments by researching on new outlooks of science, innovating new technologies, and helping their governments in policy making on the basis of the conclusions of their studies. Universities of Nepal also have to play a critical role in guiding government institutions like AEPC (Alternative Energy Promotion Center) to foster solar energy in Nepal along with the alignment of international agencies like UNDP, World bank, and ADB.
Overall, a common inference that comes up with all the statistics, quotes, and logical reasonings presented above is: Solar energy is our future because it is associated to quantum mechanics which is the most exhilarating field of modern science having the greatest probability of discovering new things. Nepal also have to flow with the current of this modern science to find itself as a playmaker in place of just a spectator in the game of development.

Dhangadi, (RSS): Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that there should be no politics in the education sector.
Inaugurating the new building of Durga Laxmi Multiple Campus in Attariya of Godavari municipality today, the former Prime Minister said attention needs to be paid to quality of education while also building required physical infrastructure for the same.
As Province No. 7 is a region with abundant possibilities, all should be united for its development, he said.
The 26-room building was completed at the total cost of Rs. 25 million. The campus that provides education up to the post-graduate level currently has 1,200 students under different faculties.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un invited South Korean President Moon Jae-in for talks in Pyongyang, South Korean officials said on Saturday, setting the stage for the first meeting of Korean leaders in more than 10 years.
Any meeting would represent a diplomatic coup for Moon, who swept to power last year on a policy of engaging more with the reclusive North and has pushed for a diplomatic solution to the standoff over North Korea’s nuclear and missile program.
The recent detente, anchored by South Korea’s hosting of the Winter Olympic Games that began on Friday, came despite an acceleration in the North’s weapons programs last year and pressure from Seoul’s allies in Washington.
The personal invitation from Kim was delivered verbally by his younger sister, Kim Yo Jong, during talks and a lunch Moon hosted at the presidential Blue House in Seoul.
Kim Jong Un wanted to meet Moon “in the near future” and would like for him to visit North Korea “at his earliest convenience”, his sister told Moon, who had said “let’s create the environment for that to be able to happen,” Blue House spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom told a news briefing.
A Blue House official said Moon “practically accepted” the invitation.
“We would like to see you at an early date in Pyongyang”, Kim Yo Jong told Moon during the lunch, and also delivered her brother’s personal letter that expressed his “desire to improve inter-Korean relations,” the Blue House said.
The prospect of two-way talks between the Koreas, however, may not be welcomed by the United States.
Washington has pursued a strategy of exerting maximum pressure on Pyongyang through tough sanctions and harsh rhetoric, demanding it give up its pursuit of nuclear weapons first for any dialogue to occur.
“This is the strongest action yet by North Korea to drive a wedge between the South and the United States,” said Kim Sung-han, a former South Korean vice foreign minister and now a professor at Korea University in Seoul.Moon asked the North Korean delegation during Saturday’s meeting to more actively seek dialogue with the United States, saying that “early resumption of dialogue (between the two) is absolutely necessary for developments in the inter-Korean relations as well,” the South said.
It said the two sides held “a comprehensive discussion … on the inter-Korean relations and various issues on the Korean peninsula in an amicable atmosphere,” but did not say whether the North’s weapons program was mentioned.
A visit by Moon to the North would enable the first summit between leaders from the two Koreas since 2007, and would mark only the third inter-Korean summit to take place.
EXTREME PRESSURE
Pyongyang conducted its largest nuclear test last year and in November tested its most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile that experts said has the range to reach anywhere in the United States.

U.S. President Donald Trump and the North Korean leadership traded insults and threats of nuclear war as tensions rose, with Trump repeatedly dismissing the prospect or value of talks with North Korea.
U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who had attended the opening ceremony seeking to counter North Korea’s attempt to use the Olympics for propaganda, said the United States, South Korea and Japan were in complete agreement on isolating Pyongyang over its nuclear weapons program.
“There is no daylight between the United States, the Republic of Korea and Japan on the need to continue to isolate North Korea economically and diplomatically until they abandon their nuclear and ballistic missile program,” Pence told reporters on his flight back to the United States.
A senior U.S. official said Pence and Moon, while watching speed skating together on Saturday night, discussed intensifying sanctions. Moon shared details with Pence of his meeting with North Korean leaders, but did not talk about the invitation to talks in Pyongyang.
As part of his push against North Korean propaganda, Pence attended the short track speed skating with Fred Warmbier, the father of an American student who died last year after being imprisoned in North Korea for 17 months.
Moon joined Pence in the arena and sat next to him, turned around to greet Warmbier, according to a White House pool report.
Later, Moon watched the joint Korean women’s ice hockey team – the first ever combined team at the Olympics – take on Switzerland, joining Kim Yo Jong and Kim Yong Nam, the North’s nominal head of state, who is also visiting the South for the Games. [L4N1Q007Q]
North and South Korea are technically still at war after their 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce rather than a peace treaty. The United States fought with South Korea and maintains tens of thousands of troops and an “ironclad” agreement to protect its ally.
North Korea has spent years developing its military, saying it needs to protect itself from U.S. aggression.
SACRED BLOODLINE
Moon hoped to use the Olympics to ease tensions and North Korea agreed to send high-profile officials as well as athletes.
Pence and the North Korean delegation, who both attended the Games opening ceremony, had no contact with each other. The senior U.S. official said Pence was not trying to avoid the North Korean officials but rather ignore them.
Kim Yo Jong, 28, is the first member of the ruling Kim family bearing the bloodline of the sacred Mount Paektu, a centerpiece of the North’s idolization and propaganda campaign, to cross the border into the South since the 1950-53 Korean War.
At the Blue House meeting, the delegations shared a lunch of dried pollack dumpling soup, a regional specialty of the only divided province on the Korean peninsula, and soju, a spirit popular on both sides of the heavily militarized border.
This is the image of Adwait Marg near Bagbazar in Kathmandu, Nepal. Since Nepal is one of the favorite destinations of tourists from all around the world, one who views this image will definitely assume that the taxis are waiting for visitors to take them to different locations of the Kathmandu valley, but this prediction is far from the reality. These taxis are waiting for common Nepalese people who are heading towards the Tribhuvan International Airport leaving their friends and families.
Nepal is an agricultural country, where most of the people follow substantial farming. The nation has not progressed enough in manufacturing and mining sectors despite healthy availability of natural resources. Tourism sector hasn’t expanded to every corner of the country; it is only centralized in few well- known places like Pokhara, Lumbini, Mustang, Chitwan, etc. Jobs offering huge payments are limited to a small group of people. Even highly educated people do not get jobs per their qualifications. Hence, the people, especially of age 18-40, move to other countries in search of jobs.
I snapped this picture while I was walking in a cool morning in this area. Every day, I see 10- 12 people keeping their luggage and heading towards the airport. The pavements are filled with their relatives and friends who are there to wish them for happy journey. Many agents, who fill their pockets with big money because of this trend of foreign employment, have settled in and around the area. The agents easily trap the common people who desperately wants to earn a large remuneration with their tempting offers and cajoling words.
According to statistics of Department of Foreign Employment, 399,406 people left Nepal for jobs (fiscal year 2072/73). More than half of the households in Nepal have at least one person in any foreign country. Traditionally, India has been the most favorite destination for Nepalese people but in recent years, countries like South Korea, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, have attracted many highly skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled manpower of Nepal. The newest way of involving in foreign employment is getting a student visa of countries which provide permanent residence easily. Many of Nepalese students go to countries like Australia for higher education but find jobs for them and shift their focus from studying to earning money
According to the World Bank report, personal remittance contributed 31.3 percent of total GDP of Nepal in 2016, which is the highest in the world in terms of remittance’s portion in national GDP. This is the reason remittance is considered as the vertebral column of Nepal’s economy; however, there is no any noticeable benefit for the nation’s infrastructure development. The money the Nepalese workers send from other countries is mostly consumed in household necessities by their families. The United Nations COMTRADE data base of 2015 said that Nepal expended 488.49 million US Dollar just on importing electronic items. According to the CEIC Data, there is a growth of 56.7% in the motor vehicle sales in Nepal in 2016 despite the government has levied extremely huge customs on imported vehicles. These statistics clearly show that the remittance in our country is consumed in luxurious goods rather than in productive sectors like agriculture, industries and business. Moreover, people have adopted new methods of transiting cash in form of gold and other valuable items. In this case, the government does not get its share from the remittance.
The government has not still realized that foreign employment neither can be be the key to financial revolution of the country nor be the permanent solution of Nepalese people’s survival. The biggest reason behind it is that foreign employment heavily depends on political situation of the nations, where Nepalese go for work. The latest example is Qatar Crisis: Saudi Arabia and its seven Arab allies cut diplomatic relations with Qatar blaming Qatar to fund terrorism and have strong connections with Iran: Saudi Arab’s biggest rival. Because of this restrictions on Qatar, jobs of 400,000 Nepalese were in danger; however, Qatar maintained its internal economy due to assistance of Turkey and Iran and thus our people did not lost their jobs. Our government does not have any backups for its people, if any catastrophic incident like Qatar crisis happens again in the future. Moreover, the developed nations have already developed schemes at a massive scale to replace human manpower with robots which will directly affect the employment rates in coming years. In such circumstances, Nepalese people have to return their homeland, where the government possibly will be welcoming them with ‘No Vacancy” posters.
Nevertheless, only the Nepal government can not be blamed for everything. One of the biggest factor behind big number people leaving our country is their mindset. Foreign employment actually upgraded the standard of living of Nepalese people extensively; the dream of bagging a luxurious lifestyle for themselves and their family members drives common Nepalese people to be ” slaves of the Sheikhs.” In place of starting initiatives from the experience they have gained from their jobs, Nepalese people not only work for lifetime in foreign countries but also encourage their children to follow their footsteps. A common concept has been promoted among everyone that foreign employment is the one and only alternative for their progress. Unless this misconception is not eradicated, Nepalese people will continue to move to other nations in search of employment.
At 1, I was taught to play with dolls,
Maybe they knew boys better match with balls.
At 5, I was told my favourite color shall be pink,
May be they knew how lives and colors link.
At 10, I was said not to go out for so long,
Maybe they thought it was just wrong.
At 15, I was told say bye bye to boyfriends,
Maybe they knew its how happyness ends.
At 20, they taught say bye bye to shorts,
Maybe they meant if I fall, It hurts.
At 25, I was taught my family was changing,
Oh God ! Why only my life so challenging ?
At 30, I was told my husband’s joy shall be mine.
And how all my lights gone still asked me to shine.
At 40, I was taught to be the best mother,
They never asked me my passion. My struggle.
At 50, when my eyesights going dim
To god,”Please Help Me !!”, I pleaded him.
At 60, I heard my husband was killed in a war
I cried and feared how I was going to restart.
A life that was never mine.
I spend all of it being just too kind.
Maybe I should have been a little selfish
Maybe I should have worked for my dreams.
Maybe I should have build up my career
Been bold, beautiful no limits just cheer
They have taught me many things.
But now I want to ask
What each of them mean ?
Why was I not allowed to be extraordinary
Like the setting sun in a beautiful scenary
After all these years, I want to fly again
Like a winged bird, like in a fairy tale.
I have spread my powerful wings,
I am living a sensible life, it seems
