Woman dies while putting out fire in Doti Published on: May 30, 2019

 

 

30 may, doti- A 35-year-old woman died in Doti district after severely burnt while trying to put out the fire that caught a forest nearby her village.

The deceased has been identified as Durga Devi Shahu of Sunikhola at Jorayal Rural Municipality-3 in the district, according to the Distract Police Office, Doti.

Shahu died on the way to hospital. Various forests in Doti have caught fire for a monthly. Efforts were made to douse the fire but to no avail, according to the Division Forest Office, Doti.

Forest Officer Suresh Chandra DC at the Division Forest Office, Doti, said that as many as 780 hectare of forest was destroyed by the fire. (RSS)

29 may, kathmandu- Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘ Prachanda’ has said the creation of a strong foundation for socialism is the need of hour. In his best wishes on the occasion of the 12th Republic Day today, he said the historic responsibility of building a base for socialism had been given to the Communist forces by the Nepali people and the existing leftist government and NCP was liable for the same.

He has appealed to the entire Communist revolutionary and progressive forces to move on in a camping aimed to offer a new model of federalism to the world human community.

Describing the establishment of federal democratic republic system with the destruction of feudalistic, anarchic and unitary governance in the country marked the epoch-making change in the country, he noted that progressive, dynamic and socialism-oriented constitution was promulgated on the support of people’s audacity and struggle.

“The constitutional provisions relating to the fundamental rights, federal system, inclusive-proportional system and social justice have paved the way for preparing for socialism, ” he reminded in the best wishes, offering words of tribute to those all who sacrificed their lives for political transformations at home and wishing for speedy recovery of all those left injured in course of such movements. Unique civilization of Sagarmatha should be conserved: Minister Banskota Published on: May 29, 2019

 

 

29 may,kathmandu –Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota has underscored collective effort to conserve the unique civilization of Everest, the Sagarmatha.
The day is observed to commemorate the first ascent of 8,848 metre-tall-Mt Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary on May 29, 1953.

Addressing a programme organized on the occasion of 12th International Sagarmatha (Everest) Day here today, Minister Banskota said that mountains, including the highest mountain in the world-Sagarmatha- were not only centre of attractions but they were a cause for concern. Expressing his concern that mountains in Nepal would turn into a mass of bare rocks someday, the Minister called for collective effort to conserve our mountains.

Referring to the eight deaths recorded in Everest, Banskota, who is also the Spokesperson of the government, clarified that many of them had died due to lack of experiences in mountaineering. “It was saddening to hear that the climbers died due to lapse in management. I refute the rumour surrounding the cause behind the death of those eight climbers. I suggest every aspiring climbers to take up mountaineering after proper training and climb in a fair weather,” he said.

He also instructed the concerned authority to issue permit for climbing mountains in Nepal to those well-trained ones.

Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mohan Krishna Sapkota echoed with Minister Banskota and underlined the need for coordinated efforts to conserve the mountains.
Likewise, President of Nepal Mountaineering Association Santabir Lama said it was challenging to protect the charm of Everest climb and enhance safety in mountains.

It has been 66 years today the highest peak of the world was ascended by human- two climbers Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary reached atop the Everest on 29 May 1953.

Since then, more than 8,000 people- both Nepalis and foreigners combined- scaled the Everest. On this occasion, the government honoured various persons climbing the Mount Everest. A social activist from South Korea, Um Hong Gill, who scaled the 14 highest peaks of the world was conferred the National Sagarmatha Award, carrying the purse of Rs 100 thousand. Similarly, Tenzing-Hillary Award was provided to a foreign climber Anthony Goden, and Nepali mountaineer Maya Sherpa and Gyanendra Shrestha. Each of them was provided the cash prize of Rs 50,000 each. (RSS)

Minister Khatiwada presents budget for fiscal year 2019/20 Published on: May 29, 2019

 

 

29 may, kathmandu-The government today brought the budget for the fiscal year 2019/20 in the joint meeting of the federal parliament (House of Representatives and National Assembly).Minister for Finance Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada read out the budget speech.

The constitution of Nepal stipulates that the budget should be presented in the federal parliament in the mid of Nepali month Jestha.

Speaker of the House Krishna Bahadur Mahara had given consent to the Finance Minister to present the budget immediately after the meeting commenced.

The government too has to present the details about the progress and developments achieved or not achieved as per the budget allocated to the each ministry in the previous fiscal year.

This is the second federal budget presented by Minister Khatiwada. Various media, including state-owned Radio Nepal and Nepal Television have been live streaming the budget presentation since 4 pm today.

Media persons were also convened in high number in the Parliament Building at New Baneshwor to cover the event.
According to the Parliament Secretariat, the representatives from the foreign diplomatic missions were not invited to the event in following the previous practice.

The designated representatives from the business community in Nepal were, however, invited to the budget presentation. (RSS)

Chinese police detain 31 suspects in telecom, online fraud Published on: May 29, 2019

 

 

29 may, Nanjing- Police in the city of Huaian, east China’s Jiangsu Province, have detained 31 suspects over a suspected telecom and online fraud, which swindled more than 900,000 yuan (about 130,288 U.S. dollars).
Last July, a victim surnamed Liu reported to the local police that he had been cheated through telecom fraud involving a girl he met online.

Liu said he established a romantic relationship with the girl after twelve days of chatting online. Liu sent 1,000 yuan to an investment platform that the girl recommended and it showed that he had earned 5,000 yuan in less than a week.

The victim was then asked to pay service fees for withdrawal of the earnings. After paying the fee, however, Liu didn’t receive any money and his online girlfriend also disappeared.

After a thorough investigation, the police made arrests in Shenzhen and Beijing as well as in the provinces of Henan and Hubei, detaining a total of 31 suspects.

Police said the scammers, disguised as young girls, used social media to establish romantic relationships online. They win the trust of victims, then ask them to invest in fake platforms. Further investigation is underway. (RSS)

5 killed in central China coal mine accident Published on: May 29, 2019

 

 

29 may,changsha- Five people were killed and one injured in a coal mine accident in central China’s Hunan Province, local authorities said Wednesday.

Six people were trapped when the accident occurred at around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday in Xinglong Coal Mine in Longtan Township, Jiahe County in the city of Chenzhou. They were rescued and sent to local hospital after the accident.

Five people died after treatment failed. The injured is still being treated.An initial investigation showed that the cause of the accident was a gas pour-out in the mine which left the miners without oxygen.

29 may, canberra – Re-elected Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his new-look ministry have officially been sworn-in to office.

Morrison and his cabinet team, which includes a record seven women, visited the Government House on Wednesday morning where the Governor General Peter Cosgrove swore them into office.

Ken Wyatt, an Aboriginal Member of Parliament (MP) from Western Australia (WA), received a standing ovation as he became the country’s first Aboriginal cabinet minister.

Morrison’s Liberal-National Party Coalition (LNP) defied polls to win a third term in government in the general election on May 18, defeating the opposition Australian Labor Party (ALP).

He elevated Sussan Ley, Linda Reynolds and Anne Ruston to his cabinet, the government’s council of senior ministers, as the ministers for the environment, defense and families and social services respectively.

They joined Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne, Agriculture Minister Bridget McKenzie, Employment Minister Michaelia Cash and Industry Minister Karen Andrews as women in Cabinet.

Australia’s 46th parliament is expected to convene for the first time in the first week of July, with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) still counting votes. Enditem (RSS)

Armed attack in Nigeria claims 23 lives: local police Published on: May 29, 2019

 

 

29 may, Abuja- Twenty-three villagers were killed in an attack by armed men on Tuesday in Nigeria’s northwestern state of Zamfara, according to the police.

Mohammed Shehu, spokesman for Zamfara police, confirmed the killing to Xinhua, saying the villages of Tunga and Kabaje in Kaura-Namoda area of the state were seriously affected by the attack.

“At the moment, peace has been restored in the affected areas and a combined team of mobile and regular police, the army and air force are on surveillance in the area,” Shehu said.

A local government official told Xinhua that more than 100 armed men rode into the two villages on motorcycles when residents were going to their farms.The cause of the killing is unknown, as no armed group in the country has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

The state of Zamfara, as well as neighboring Kaduna state, have witnessed a series of attacks by armed groups in recent months.
There have also been recurring incidents of livestock rustling and armed banditry in the region. Enditem (RSS)

29 may, Beijing- The famous Badaling section of the Great Wall in Beijing will limit visitors to 65,000 a day from June 1, the Beijing Youth Daily reported Wednesday.

The Badaling Great Wall is located in Yanqing County, 60 km northwest of downtown Beijing. It is the earliest open section and the most popular tourist destination on the wall. Many foreign heads of state and government have visited it since the 1950s. Apart from the limit, it will also impose a real-name registration system for ticket purchases starting next month, encouraging advance online booking.

Tourists can book tickets seven days in advance through its website www.badaling.cn and its WeChat account.
The Badaling Great Wall received more than 9.9 million visitors last year, and the number of tourists has been extremely uneven in the off-season and peak season.Tourist’s enthusiasm has caused great pressure for the safety of the relics and tourists, therefore, advance booking and visitor limits are necessary, according to the newspaper, citing a Badaling staff member.

The Badaling Great Wall is not the first tourist attraction in Beijing to implement a visitor limit. Since 2015, the Palace Museum, or the Forbidden City, has limited its visitors to 80,000 a day. From April this year, the National Museum of China has set the daily limit at 30,000 visitors.

Meanwhile, the Badaling Great Wall has set up a three-tier warning system for visitors. The yellow warning will be issued when the number of visitors reaches 39,000, orange warning for 52,000 and red warning for 65,000. Enditem (RSS)

29 may, Beijing- Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Russia from June 5 to 7 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on Wednesday at a press briefing.
