Apple rotten at farm for not finding market Published on: June 14, 2019

14 june, Darchula- Apple farming of Jeet Singh Bohora, a local of Byas rural municipality-1, Chhangaru, Gaga, turned to be a loss business for not finding market.

Bohora, who had started apple farming since 2060 BS, has suffered a big loss in lack of apple market. His apples now are being rotten in farm with no market outlets for sale.

The local apple produce is being rotten at home and farm since there is no market point nearby and there is no road connectivity to take the apples to distant market.

It involves huge cost to take apples to close Indian market. The local apples are being sold to Indian Army and border security personnel.

This year around Bohora produced around 30 quintal apples and he roughly sold only 20 quintals to Indian security personnel. Remaining 10 quintal apples went rotten.

“There is no market nearby and also no road to take apples to another market area”, he said. Though the apple produce was high in the soil of Darchula, we have to suffer loss due to unavailability of market, he further said. “I had suffered loss amounting to Rs 1 million for not being able to sell remaining 10 quintal apples”.

In the beginning, Bohora had cultivated only 250 apple plants which has now expanded to around 1000 plants in his farm. He is doing apple farming in around five ropanis of land.

“Our produce will get market outlet if trail road at least is constructed”, he said urging the government to pay attention on road connectivity for the promotion of apple farming in Darchula. (RSS)
