ICC Women’s T20 WC: Nepal loses to Thailand by 57 runs Published on: February 21, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal has faced a 57-run defeat at the hand of host Thailand in their second match under the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier being held at Bangkok on Thursday.

Nepal secured only 67 runs at the cost of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs while chasing the 125-run target set by the opponent team. Except two players – Indu Barma and Sita Rana Magar, Nepal’s other players could not score double-digit runs.  Barma was out for 29 runs off 44 balls while Magar scored 18 runs off 34 balls.

In reply, Thai cricketers Sornnarin Tippoch grabbed two wickets of Nepal giving away 12 runs in four overs, Suleeporn Laomi, Nattaya Boochatham and Chanida Sutthiruang grabbed one wicket each, thereby exerting pressure on Nepal.

Earlier, Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Thailand scored 124 runs in the allotted 20 overs losing seven wickets.

Chanida Sutthiruang top-scored with 35 runs including three fours off 29 balls, Naruemol Chaiwai made 32 runs including three fours off 27 balls while Wongpaka Liengprasert contributed 28 runs including one four off 27 balls.

In reply, Nary Thapa and Kabita Kunwar grabbed two wickets each of Thailand while Captain Rubina Chhetry and Karuna Bhandar claimed one wicket each.

Nepal will take on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in its third match on February 22, against Hong Kong on February 24, against China on February 25 and against Kuwait on February 27. The winner of the qualifiers will be selected for the ICC Women T-20 World Cup Qualifier 2019.

A total of seven countries from Asia are participating in the qualifier. Nepal, the UAE, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong and Kuwait along with the host team Thailand are playing under the Round Robin League. Each team will play six games.

This qualifier would determine the raking of participating countries. Thailand is in the 12th position, UAE in the 14th while Nepal in the 16th in T-20 Ranking. A total of 27 countries including seven from Asia, nine from Africa, six from Oceania, three from Europe and two from America would compete in the first-phase selection.

A 14-member Nepali cricket team led by Captain Rubina Chhetri left here for Thailand on Saturday (February 16) for the same. Sita Rana Magar (Vice-Captain), Sarita Magar, Neri Thapa, Indu Barma, Sonu Khadka, Arati Bidari, Kajal Shrestha, Roma Thapa, Kabita Kunwar, Apsara Begam, Mamata Kumari Chaudhari and Bindu Rawal are in the team.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Thailand scored 124 runs in the allotted 20 overs losing seven wickets.
Chanida Sutthiruang top-scored with 35 runs including three fours off 29 balls, Naruemol Chaiwai made 32 runs including three fours off 27 balls while Wongpaka Liengprasert contributed 28 runs including one four off 27 balls.

ICC Women’s WC Qualifier: Nepal defeats Malaysia by 34 runs Published on: February 19, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal has defeated Malaysia by 34 runs at the fourth match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier held at Bangkok on Tuesday.

Nepal restricted opponent Malaysia to paltry 92 runs while it was chasing the 127-run target. Sarita Magar and Karuna Bhandari took two wickets of Malaysia giving away 12 and 14 runs, respectively, exerting pressure on Malaysia. Similarly Sita Rana Magar and Kabita Kunwar grabbed one wicket each.

While chasing the 127-run target set by Nepal, Malaysian cricketer Christina Baret was out for 21 runs, WA Duraisingam for 18 and Sasha Azmi for 16 while the rest batsmen could not reach double-digit runs.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Nepal had secured 126 runs, losing five wickets in the allotted 20 overs against Malaysia. Sita Rana Magar top-scored with 42 runs including two fours off 40 balls, Rubina Chhetry collected 33 runs including three fours off 25 balls and remained not-out while Kajal Shrestha contributed 16 runs including three fours off 29 balls.

In reply, Zumika Azmi, Sasha Azmi and WA Duraisingam grabbed one wicket each.

ICC Woman WC Qualifier: Nepal eyes Global Qualifier Published on: February 18, 2019

KATHMANDU: The International Cricket Council (ICC) Women Asia Qualifier games is scheduled to kick off in Thailand from Tuesday.

The competitions under this qualifier are the initial steps for the Asian countries towards the T-20 World Cup to be held in 2020 and the 50-overs World Cup being organized in 2021.

A total of seven countries from Asia are participating in the qualifier. Nepal, the UAE, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong and Kuwait along with the host team Thailand are playing under the Round Robin League. Each team will play six games.

This qualifier is the first gateway to the World Cup. The team which is atop the points table after playing with each other in the qualifier will be selected for the Global Qualifier – and that too for two World Cup Qualifiers.

Nepal’s national women cricket team which became the first runner-up in the T-20 Smash Cricket Championship held in Thailand is playing World Cup Qualifier tournament with enthusiasm despite short preparation time before going to Thailand again to play in the qualifier matches.

Although the games under the qualifier are taking place from today, Nepal will play against Malaysia on Tuesday in its first match. Nepal will take on Thailand in its second match on February 21. It will play against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in its second match on February 22, against Hong Kong on February 24, against China on February 25 and against Kuwait on February 27.

The winner of the qualifiers will be selected for the ICC Women T-20 World Cup Qualifier 2019.

Nepal has played against Thailand, UAE, China and Malaysia in the T-20 Smash Championship held in Thailand last month. Nepal, which was undefeated in the group stage, defeated Indonesia in the semi-final and entered the final. It was defeated by Thailand in the final.

The host Thailand has been seen as the main contender to reach the Global Qualifier. This time, it is expected that the countries like Nepal and UAE would give a hard fight to Thailand.

CYC Attariya tops points table by defeating Rupandehi Published on: February 14, 2019

KATHMANDU: CYC Attariya has climbed atop the points table by defeating Rupandehi Challengers by 39 runs  at the Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL) held at Fapla Cricket Ground in Dhangadhi on Thursday.

Rupandehi was all out for 82 runs in the allotted 20 overs while it was chasing the 122-run target.

Attariya’s captain Dipendra Singh Airee top-scored with 67 runs including 10 fours and one wicket off 50 balls, Sunny Patel, Rit Gautam and S Pandey scored 12 runs each while the other batsmen did not reach double-digit runs.

Lalit Bhandari took highest three wickets of CYC Attariya giving away 23 runs in four overs, Bikram Sob grabbed two wickets while P Mehara and B Regmi bagged one wicket each.

Chasing the 122-run target, Rupandehi’s Sumit Maharjan made highest 22 not-out runs including one four and one six off 22 balls, S Sunar collected 15 runs off 27 balls while PS Airee and Bikram Sob made 14 runs each.

Sunny Patel, Bhuvan Karki, DS Airee and Dipendra Rawat took two wickets each of Rupandehi Challengers.

Dipendra Singh Airee was announced the ‘Player of the Match’.

With the win, CYC Attariya is atop the table points of the ongoing DPL. Attariya and Kathmandu have been placed first and second respectively in terms of run rate with two equal two points while Rupandehi has been placed third after winning two games out of the three.

 

DPL: CYC Attariya defeats Dhangadhi Stars by 5 runs Published on: February 12, 2019

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: CYC Attariya has defeated Dhangadhi Stars by five runs in their second match of the Dhangadhi Premier League held at Fapla Cricket Ground, Dhangadi on Tuesday.

CYC Attariya bowled out Dhangadhi for paltry 90 runs, restricting the latter from reaching the target of 96 runs. CYC Attariya’s player Bhuvan Karki outshone by grabbing four wickets of Dhangadhi giving away just 10 runs, Sunny Patel took two wickets while D Rawat and DS Airee took one wicket each.

Chasing the 96-run target, Dhangadhi’s Raju Rijal collected highest 26 runs off 26 balls, Roshan Mustafa secured 18 runs off 27 balls, Sompal Kami contributed 10 runs, Sandeep Rajali made 11 runs while the other players could not reach double-digit runs.

Nepali cricketers improve in ICC T20 ranking Published on: February 11, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepali cricketers have improved their position in the latest International Cricket Council T20 ranking. In a recent ranking list released by ICC, national team captain Paras Khadka, Sompal Kami and Basanta Regmi have climbed up  the list. With the impressive performance against UAE recently, the Nepali cricketers have improved their position.

According to the list, Khadka has reached the 90th position as a batsman and 40th position as an all-rounder.
Similarly, Kami has stood at 70th position from 93rd as the bowlers and 51st position as an all-rounder. Likewise, Basanta Regmi jumped to the 71st position from the 74th position. Pakistani batsman Babar Azam of Pakistan leads the category of batting whereas Rashid Khan of Afghanistan in bowling and Glen Maxwell of Australia as an all-rounder.

DPL: Kathmandu clinches 4-wicket win against Dhangadhi Published on: February 11, 2019

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Goldens has won Dhangadi Stars by four wickets at the first match of Dhangadhi Premier League underway at Dhangadhi on Monday.

Chasing the 133-run target set by Dhangadhi Stars, Kathmandu achieved it in the 19.5 overs losing six wickets.

Right-hand batsman Ankit Dabas top-scored with 29 runs including two fours and two sixes off 23 balls, Gaurav Tomar made 28 runs including three fours and two sixes off 24 balls while Anil Sah contributed 24 runs off 40 balls, ensuring win for Kathmandu.

In reply, Dhangadhi’s Roshan Mustafa grabbed highest four wickets of Kathmandu, giving away 27 runs in four overs while Bipin Khatri and Amir Hayat took one wicket each conceding 17 and 30 runs, respectively.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss, Kathmandu Goldens made 132 runs losing five wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Amit Shrestha secured highest 50 runs including four fours and two sixes off  50 balls.

Similarly, Sandeep Rajali collected 28 runs including four fours off 35 balls, Saurav Khanal made 25 runs off 10 balls while Pawan Sarraf 19 runs. The other players did not score double-digit runs.

Nandan Yadav took two wickets of Dhangadhi, giving away eight runs while Lalit Rajbanshi and Ankit Dabas grabbed one wicket each.
