The 13th edition of the gala ICT event, CAN Info-Tech 2007, kicked off at the Birendra International Convention Center, Kathmandu, Tuesday.

According to Computer Association of Nepal (CAN), there are 170 stalls of 120 national and international companies at the Info-Tech.
As the national body of information technology in Nepal, CAN has been organising CAN Info-tech since 1995 as a forum for displaying latest technology, creating awareness about IT applications in the country and promoting Nepali IT sector across the world.
The event will be accompanied by a conference on information technology from January 10 to 13.
CAN officials said more than 300,000 people are expected to observe this year’s event.

In his message on the occasion of opening of CAN Info-Tech Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala expressed his commitment to support “New Nepal: E-Nepal” concept floated by CAN.
“Information technology has a great role in the development of any country so the concept of CAN is relevant at a time when we are heading towards making New Nepal,” the statement added.
The Prime Minister also lauded the effort of private sector for helping in economic development of the country by developing information technology.
He also assured to formulate necessary laws and policies for the development of IT sector of the country.
