Talking to journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport before departing for Havana, the capital of Cuba, to participate in a ministerial-level meeting of the Non-Alignment Movement, DPM Oli, who is in press in the recent days for his harsh comments about the Maoists, reiterated that arms management was necessary to hold constituent assembly elections in a free and fair atmosphere without any sort of intimidation.
The government and Maoists are yet to finalize the interim constitution to include the Maoist rebels into the interim constitution to hold the election of the constituent assembly.
DPM Oli further said that the appointments of ambassadors to different foreign embassies would take place after he returns home after taking part in the NAM meeting and UN general assembly.
DPM Oli is leading a 6-member Nepalese delegation to the 14th Summit of the Non-Alignment Movement to be held on 11-16 September.
Oli would leave for New York to attend the 61st United Nations General Assembly after the Havana meetings.
Oli also said that he may meet UN Secretary General Kofi Annan during the general assembly.
DPM Oli is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 25.
DPM Oli is scheduled to have meetings with his counterparts from various friendly countries on the sidelines of the General Assembly and will try to garner their support for Nepal’s candidature to a Non-Permanent seat of the Security Council for the term 2007-2008. The elections of the post will take place on October 19.
