Being organised jointly by Birgunj Chamber of Commerce, Bara Chamber of Commerce and Hetauda Chamber of Commerce, the rally will march from Pathalaiya to Birgunj. People from various walks of life including industrialists, businessmen, trade union activists, rights activists, teachers, lawyers and journalists will take part in the rally, the organizers said.

Talking to reporters in Kathmandu on Friday, newly elected president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandi Raj Dhakal, said the peace rally was being organised to pressurize parties in Nepal conflict to treat the industries as ‘zones of peace.’

The businessmen decided to take to streets with the message of peace after Maoist insurgents bombed major industries in the country including Reliance Spinning Mills and Jyoti Spinning Mills. Unilever Nepal Limited, a joint venture, has already closed down its operations amid Maoist threats while dozens of tea estates in eastern Nepal have resumed operations after weeks long closure due to Maoist threats.

The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has blamed the government of failing to provide adequate security to industrial establishments in the wake of increasing Maoist attacks. nepalnews.com by Aug 27 05
