As part of the recently announced protest programme, the Federation of the Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) organized a protest rally in Birjung protesting attacks in industrial sector in many excuses and demanding fulfillments of their demands.
Starting from the premises of Birjung Industry and Commerce Association, the rally passed through major thoroughfares of the city before concluding at Ghantaghar.
The national assembly of businessmen held in Birjung on Monday demanded to solve the extortion spree at industries and business enterprises, ending disputes with trade unions, and abolishing the truck syndicate. They have also demanded categorization of defaulters into willful and defaulter by circumstances and take action only against the willful ones.
The entrepreneurs alleged that the government is attacking the industrial sector in the name of reform and the Maoists are attacking it in the name of extortion spree and fulfillment of unnecessary demands of trade union.
The assembly constituted a national struggle committee headed by FNCCI president Chandi Raj Dhakal.
The businessmen also decided to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister and stage sit-in programmes at main customs points on Friday to paralyse all import and export.
The FNCCI president said other programmes of agitation would be made public later.
