Despite the call for dialogue by the cabinet, the business community has decided to stick with their indefinite strike saying they are yet to receive written commitment towards meeting their demands.
The business community has also claimed that they are yet to receive formal invitation for talks. Subsequently, they will continue with indefinite strike on Wednesday also. However, essential services such as banks, public transport will resume operations.
President of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Chandi Raj Dhakal said that their agitation will continue until eight party leaders including the Prime Minister give collective written commitments to them. “If the government does not become serious, we will announce stringent agitation programs on Wednesday,” he said. They have demanded creation of conducive atmosphere to operate business enterprises; ending of all kinds of attacks, threats, intimidations, extortion and abductions; and return of seized properties by the Maoists, among others.
The business community has also urged all businessmen and entrepreneurs to gather in Basantapur on Wednesday morning at 10 am. Meanwhile, reports say that the PM has called them for dialogue on Wednesday morning.
The business community including over 70 various organisations led by FNCCI, Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) have announced indefinite strike since Monday afternoon following physical attack against businessmen in Kathmandu by Maoist cadres.
