Boys Union Club (BUC) stunned strong Mahendra Police Club (MPC) 3-0 while Samsung JYC collected some relief beating another relegation-threatened Brigade Boys Club 3-1 in the day’s matches of San Miguel “A” Division League Football Tournament.
After playing goal-less first half, BUC earned penalty kick when Ganesh Budathoki handed the ball inside the D-box in the 47th minute. BUC Goal machine Raju Rai didn’t waste the opportunity.
Shuddered MPC then implemented the attacking strategy resulting in a hollow defense line in the back which was utilized brilliantly by the rookie side of BUC. Raju Rai utilized the counter attack and shot past MPC goalie Ritesh Thapa in a clinical fashion to make the score 2-0.
With the two goals lead, BUC started to use up the time but unfortunately, their goalie Amir Byanjankar – who saved as many as three goal scoring chances- left the ground in the 75th minute for his collar bone injury. Second choice goalie Deepak Dongol guarded the post taking some instructions from Coach Shyam Mali. Counter attack paid this time again in the 77th minute when super-sub Dipendra Pariyar completed the rout in the 77th minute scoring superb goal. MPC defender Rakesh Shrestha committed a blunder while checking on Pariyar, who netted brilliantly before dribbling past MPC goalie.
Substitute goalie Dongol didn’t let down the boys’ spirit saving as many as two chances later on. MPC could have cut the deficit in the wee hours but “unlucky” Jumanu Rai hit the bar in the 86th minute. Earlier, Jumanu Rai and Hari Khadka wasted two goal scoring chances shooting wide off the target.
“I am the happiest man on this earth today”, Shyam Mali, coach of BUC, told reporters. “Waiting for 32 years is really a difficult time but we did it”, Mali added, “Boys must have full credit for this win”. BUC had defeated MPC after a gap of 32 years.
“Win and loss is natural in the game but this result may hamper our dream”, MPC Coach Anil Adhikari told SoccerAgeNepal. With win, BUC firmly stood in 11th position while MPC has 38 points in 15 matches.
In another match, Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) defeated Brigade Boys Club 3-1. Dipen Shrestha put JYC ahead in the 21st minute but lanky Binod Thapa leveled the score in the 25th minute. Suicide goal from Nirmal Tamang poured cold water over the BBC’s come back while Min Lama completed the rout scoring in the 73rd minute.
“We collected some relief after this match”, SJYC Coach Meg Raj K.C added, “We will play stubborn game in the coming matches”.
