A fire broke out at the Biratnagar Jute Mills at 7:00 pm Saturday evening which raged on till late night, according to reports from the district. No casualties have been reported so far. Four fire trucks from Biratnagar sub metropolis and Itahari have been mobilised to extinguish the fire.
The loss of property from the fire is yet to be assessed. A short circuit in one of the departments ignited the fire, according to reports. The mill, which is the oldest in the country had remained closed for the last one year. It was put back into operation after the Golccha Organisation volunteered to take the mill under contract.
Meanwhile reports from Nawalparasi have stated that a fire that broke out at the godown used for storing hay at the Bhrikuti Paper factory in Gaidakot has resulted in the loss of eight hundred thousand rupees.
More than hundred trucks of hay was damaged in the fire that started Saturday afternoon. The fire could have possibly been ignited when the truck gave out a spark when it prepared to start the engine.
