Biratnagar, June 22: All shops in Biratnagar town area remained closed Wednesday at the call of the Biratnagar Jute Mill Joint Action Committee which was pressing for its 19-point demand.
But drug stores, stalls selling tobacco, pan and tea stalls remained open. Similarly, transport in the city was also not disrupted.
The workers at Biratnagar Jute Mills have been pressing for the fulfillment of their 19-point demand and have also closed down the Mill since May 29 in protest against what they call the intransigence of the management.
The demands, among other things, include reinstatement of employees expelled on the basis of political prejudice and to not reduce the allowances and facilities enjoyed by the workers.
