Nepali Congress founder member and former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai in an exclusive interview to the Kantipur daily said Wednesday that the dissolved House of Representatives needs to be restored in order to protect democracy.
Bhattarai who was bed ridden following the major political upheavals in the country had refrained from making any comments so far. “The King has insulted the people who mandated the Nepali Congress to rule by making his own choice of ministers to represent the government,” Bhattarai said.
He said decision to centralize power and ban political parties in the pre-1960 had brought enormous sufferings to the people. The process of democratization was taking its course following the restoration of democracy in 1990, he said.
“As the restoration of democracy in the political context can alone contribute to correct the aberrations, the King should restore the system and the parliament which was dissolved some months ago,” Bhattarai said.
