Senior Congress leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai has assured Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala that he, too, would take initiatives for Congress unity.
Former prime minister Bhattarai, the only living founding member of Nepali Congress (NC), gave his assurance after PM Koirala raised the issue of Congress unity during the two leaders’ meeting at Bhattarai’s residence in Bhainsepati, on Friday morning.
Sarat Singh Bhandari, central leader of Nepali Congress (Democratic), who was also present in the meeting, told Nepalnews that Bhattarai has said he will work from his capacity for the sake of party unity.
“They talked about contemporary political situation. The meeting was held since the two leaders had not met for a long time,” Bhandari said.
Dr. Narayan Khadka and Bhandari attended the meeting. Later PM Koirala told reporters that he visited Bhattarai to inquire about his health.
PM Koirala’s meeting with Bhattarai comes amid heightened concerns about the delay in the unification between NC and NC (Democratic). Leaders of both parties have been saying that they will unite before the elections for Constituent Assembly (CA).
