The Nepali embassy in Qatar has taken initiative to exploring ways to reactivate the Non-Resident Nepali Expatriates Benevolent Fund in the country.
According to Gulf Times, Ram Kaji Khadka, Charge d’ Affaires of the Nepali embassy, said the mission had convened on Thursday during a meeting of the representatives fro various Nepali groups in Qatar to discuss the issue.
There are over 55 Nepali community organisations established in Qatar with more than 150,000 Nepalis living here.
Community members agreed on the need to strengthen the activities of the fund especially when the community’s strength in Qatar is increasing. The fund has been lying idle for quite some time.
Considering the growing requirements of the Nepalis living in the country, the Nepalis felt an urgent need to strengthen the benevolent fund so that the mission could provide solace to those in distress.
Reaffirming that community members would not be asked to make contributions to the proposed benevolent fund, Khadka said those willing could make voluntary contributions. The business houses employing Nepali workers would be requested to contribute towards the fund, the report said.
“The bigger its size the more helpful it could be to the community members,” he added.
Apart from the benevolent and relief funds, problems faced by Nepalis would also be discussed at the meeting.
