People’s participation in the month long awareness campaign of the CPN-UML in more than a dozen of the kingdom’s 75 administrative districts demonstrate the people’s support of the party’s opposition to the October 4 Royal move to dismiss Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba after assuming executive powers following a constitutional breakdown, the party said.
The party said this in a statement Monday after a standing committee meeting one day after a mass meeting attended by thousands in the capital to end the campaign.
The party says King Gyanendra’s action is unconstitutional and asked the King to correct the error amid threats of further public protests. Details of the second phase of the campaign have not been revealed.
The CPN-UML charged the government of trying to obstruct its awareness programmes.
US Assistant Secretary of State Christina Rocca urged leaders of political parties in meetings during a three-day visit that ended Sunday to work together with King Gyanendra to patch up differences.
