Aviation authorities Tuesday cleared the Austrian registered aircraft that was detained yesterday after it entered into Nepali airspace without permission.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) said the Embraer-135 aircraft that strayed in Nepali sky from Lilabari of the Indian state of Assam was cleared after an investigation found that it veered into Nepal inadvertently.

However, the CAAN fined Rs.10,000 to the captain of the aircraft for over-flying and recommended the concerned airline company to take action against him and his crew for lack of cognizance.

CAAN director general Rajesh Raj Dali said, “Though the aircraft entered into Nepal’s airspace without permission, we’ve given clearance after a fine of Rs.10,000, which, in fact, is a over flying charge.” The process for further actions on the basis of the recommendations of the probe committee is underway, he added.

The aircraft was carrying eight people, including four crewmembers. Including the Belgian captain, the crew comprises two Austrians and a Belgian engineer.

The 11-member probe team under Triratna Manandhar, director of CAAN’s air traffic service, had interrogated the crewmembers for hours Monday evening.

The aircraft will leave the Tribhuvan International Airport tomorrow, officials informed.
