People in the Kathmandu valley were running from pillar to post trying in vain to buy kerosene Thursday after the depots selling the indispensable commodity turned them away saying that they were unable to get it from the Nepal Oil Corporation.

Reports in the media said that other cities bordering India were also facing an acute shortage of kerosene.

Local depots have been accused of creating an artificial shortage of kerosene after the Nepal Oil Corporation pressed the government to hike kerosene prices claiming that it was facing a huge loss when selling the commodity at subsidized price.
