Chief of the Army Staff Gen. Pyar Jung Thapa will begin an inspection visit of the insurgency affected districts of far west Nepal, including Rukum and Rolpa Saturday, Army sources said.

Gen. Thapa arrived in Nepalgunj Friday. Gen. Thapa assumed office earlier in September.

The army this week launched massive search and destroy missions in Rolpa and Rukum killing several dozen rebels; at least four soldiers were killed and several others were injured in the operation.

Maoists attacked Argakanchi and Sindhuli around Sept 11 about the time Gen. Thapa took over the army command. Security forces suffered heavy casualties in the rebel attacks.

Gen. Thapa directed operations in the insurgency affected areas before assuming the top post in the Army.
