Vice president of People’s Front (PF) Lilamani Pokharel claimed that the pact with King Gyanendra was now obstructing the republic announcement. On April 24 last year, King Gyanendra had relinquished his hold on power by restoring the parliament in the face of Jana Andolan II. Following his announcement, the parties had withdrawn their agitation.
Addressing PF’s public meeting in Khandbari of Sankhuwasabha district on Saturday, Pokharel accused the leaders of political parties of trying to cheat the people by talking tall about republic but not doing anything about it.
He also accused that foreign intervention was also thwarting moves to declare republic in the country. He said republic must be immediately announced by the parliament.
