The Ministry of Health, Child Health Division has launched the Immunization against Polio Mop-up Programme in five districts of Terai from today, reports said.
In the context of a two-year child diagnosed having polio at Phari Parsha VDC of Sarlahi recently, the children below five years of age in Sarlahi and neighbouring Rautahat, Mahottari, Makawanpur and Sindhuli districts are being administered polio drops as part of the campaign of eradicating polio from Nepal, reports said citing director of the division Dr Yashobardan Pradhan.
The programme lasts for two days. The polio case was diagnosed after five years in the country, he said.
As per the directives of the World Health Organization polio drops should be administered to the children in the area, where a new polio case is identified, within two weeks.
