Ministry of Defence has made all security apparatus alert to contain further terrorist attacks in the country. National News Agency (RSS) reported quoting statement of Ministry of Defence that all security agencies have taken very seriously the Maoist attacks in different parts of the country Friday night and are determined to counter it in a more organised and effective manner in the future.

The Defence Ministry said that as the insurrectionary attacks by the Maoists have jeopardized the country’s law and order and security situation, all security agencies including the Royal Nepalese Army are determined to fulfill their respective duties in such a manner to prevent the country’s security situation from being deteriorated.

The Defence Ministry said as part of their violent activities, the CPN (Maoist) set off bombs and launched armed attacks in various districts of the country including Syangja, Surkhet and Dang Friday night. In that context, the Maoists attacked the Sri Bhagwati Prasad Company of the Royal Nepal Army in Dang leaving 14 Royal Nepal Army officers and soldiers dead and some others injured, the press statement said.

Such activities of Maoists have made it clear that they are out to erode the national sovereignty of the Kingdom of Nepal and democracy attained through the sacrifices by the people, and impose an autocratic regime at gunpoint, the Defence Ministry said. The Defence Ministry has strongly denounced the violent activities of the Maoists and prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls.

For the past few years, the Maoists in the name of the people’s war have indulged in looting, killing and kidnapping those who disagree with them, seeking forced resignations of local people’s representatives, extortion and terrorizing the people at gun point, said the press release.

The press release further stated that the government demonstrated utmost flexibility in attempting to solve the problem through talks. At a time when the government was releasing Maoist prisoners, withdrawing the pending cases against them, making names of the Maoists public and had scrapped the Public Security Regulations in an attempt to resolve the problem peacefully, the Maoists all of a sudden broke the ceasefire unilaterally and took up weapons against the desired will of the people, the Defence Ministry said.
