The all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, held at Ministry of Defence in Kathmandu Wednesday backed the stance taken by the government in the talks with Maoists. It gave mandate to government to go ahead with same stance in the third round of talks, said a member who participated in the all-party meeting.

After the meeting, Minister for Defence Mahesh Acharya said that representatives of all parties put forth their views on peace talks with Maoists. They asked the government not to accept the Maoist demands of abrogation of constitution and constitutional monarchy, said Chiranjibi Wagle, Minister for Local Development.

However, they emphasized the need for amending some provisions in the constitution.

The third round of talks between the government and Maoists is expected to be held some time next week. The dates have not yet been decided.

The second rounds of talks had been held in Bardiya. But the talks ended in deadlock as the government representatives refused to discuss the Maoist demands of abrogation of monarchy and constitution.
