The District Administration Office (DAO) Nepalgunj formed an all-party committee to assess the actual loss incurred during the riots last week and to distribute compensation to the victims.
The committee was formed after the government allotted Rs 3 million as immediate relief to the riot victims.
The committee will visit the site and determine actual losses incurred during the riot and also distribute immediate relief materials.
The committee headed by legal officer of the District Administration Office (DAO) Ramesh Acharya comprises representatives of ruling seven party alliance and the Maoists; Nepalgunj municipality; and Industry and Commerce Associations of Nepalgunj.
According to the Banke Chamber of Commerce and Industry, at least 150 businesses including shops, hotels and cyber cafes were destroyed or looted during the riot in Nepalgunj.
The government had formed a three-member judicial commission chaired by Butwal Appellate Court judge, Purusottam Parajuli, to investigate the incident and submit report to the government.
One person was killed and dozens of others injured in the last week’s unrest in this mid-western town.
