Maoist victims chanting slogans against Maoist Chairman Prachanda in front…
Police have released nearly 150 members of the Maoist Victims Association (MVA) who were arrested from a sit-in in front of Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, Sunday morning.

The arrested Maoist victims including MVA chairman Dharma Raj Neupane were released in the evening, few hours after their arrest. The arrested MVA protesters were kept at the ward police offices in Anam Nagar, Kamal Pokhari and Teenkune.

Police intervened and took the protesters into control soon after they started their sit-in in front the main gate of Singha Durbar with a 10-point demand which includes Rs1 million compensation to families of each individual killed by the Maoists, return of seized properties and resettlement of people displaced due to Maoist threat.

The protesters chanted slogans against the government for failing to address the problems facing the Maoist victims. They also demanded that those killed by the rebels during the 10-year-old conflict be declared martyrs.

Tens of thousands of people have been displaced during the decade-long conflict but there is no authentic data with the government about the number and the condition of the internally displaced persons (IDPs).
