Kathmandu, August 3: CPN-UML chief whip in parliament Bharat Mohan Adhikari accused the government of adopting suppressive policies towards opposition activists and workers.

Taking special time in the House of Representatives today, Adhikari said chief district officer in Darchula misbehaved and manhandled former lawmaker and central committee member of CPN-UML Urba Dutta Panta, when he along with other party workers sent to submit a memorandum to CDO on various problems of the district.

CDO represents government in the district and if CDO behaves like this and uses force to suppress opposition workers, the government should take responsibility, Adhikari said.

” I, thus, demand the government take action against the CDO who manhandled Panta and other workers”, he said. He said our party is the responsible party and always raises the voice at the best interest of the people. Our workers led by Urba Dutta Panta went to the CDO to draw the attention of the government towards some of the burning issues of the people. But he became victim of suppression from the local administration.

I want to draw the attention of the Ministry of Home towards this issue and ask the government to ensure that such incidents do not repeat in the future, Bharat Mohan Adhikari said. In today’s meeting RPP lawmaker Pashupati Sumsher Rana demanded that a parliamentary committee headed by Prime Minister be constituted to check revenue leakage and monitor the activities of revenue mobilisation in line with the report already submitted by Parliamentary Committee on Revenue Leakage Investigation.

The committee headed by lawmaker Pari Thapa submitted its report clearly pointing out revenue leakage, persons responsible for that and suggestions to check such leakage. Lawmaker Rana demanded that the report be implemented and those found involved in the revenue leakage be punished.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Keshar Bahadur Rokaya raised the issue of assassination of one Nepali Congress in Rukum district. He said ” Maoists insurgents” killed one person in Rukum on July 30, and demanded that government provide security to the people of Rukum.

” People of Rukum are terrorized by Maoist terror and I ask the government to protect the people of Rukum from Maoist terror”, he said.
