Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Tuesday announced the schedule for the upcoming ACC Under-19 Cricket Tournament to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from November 8 this year.

Four grounds will be used in Kathmandu to host the tournament. Two of the grounds are new and are being specially developed for the tournament. Nepal Television, the state broadcaster, will telecast the semi-final and final matches live and will carry highlights of all day’s play.

Fifteen teams – divided into four groups – will participate in the tournament. As semi-finalists in the last ACC U19 Cup held in Pakistan in 2003, Nepal, Malaysia, Qatar and Kuwait were seeded and thus kept apart from each other’s groups. The draw was made in Kuala Lumpur today at the presence of ACC Development Manager Sultan Rana and the Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Cricket Association, Sivanandan Chinnadura, reports said.

Security was among the main issues raised by the ACC Development Manager Rana in his inspection tour of Kathmandu in September this year. “The chief of the Police and the Chief of Army Staff gave me their assurances that no teams would face any problems during the tournament,” he said.

Nepal is scheduled to play against Bahrain on November 8 at the TU Cricket Ground and against Brunei next day at the Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya Ground. 15-nations are vying for the title.
