‘A’ division league football to start from Aug 26

The Martyr’s Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League Football tournament is going to kick off from August 26 at the Dasharath Stadium and Chyasal grounds.

A total of 210 games will be played in the double- league format with each club playing 28 matches. The league champion will get a chance to participate in the AFC President Cup next year while two ‘bottom teams’ will be relegated to ‘B’ division.

According to the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), the organizer, the prize money for the winner has been increased to Rs 1 million from the previous Rs 500 thousand. The runner-up team will bag Rs 700 thousand and the third place will receive Rs 500 thousand.

Similarly, the 4th, 5th and 6th place team will receive Rs 300 thousand, Rs 200 thousand and Rs 100 thousand respectively and 7th and 8th teams and a disciplined team will get Rs 50 thousand each.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, ANFA president Ganesh Thapa said provision of insurance on the part of players have been introduced, for the first time, which will cover injuries.

The best player will get a car while the best goalkeeper, defender, striker, mid-fielder, the highest scorer and the coach will get a Yamaha motorbike each.

Besides this, the ANFA will provide Rs 150 thousand to each team for the preparation of tournament.

Gorkha Brewery is the main sponsor of the tournament with Surya Private Limited being the co-sponsor. Nepal Television will telecast major matches live, ANFA officials informed.
