An eighteen-year-old girl has died in Kathmandu as she used a date-expired medicine for abortion Monday.
Soniya Lama fell unconscious immediately after injecting the drug bought from a pharmacy in Balaju, according to police. She died while being taken to Janamaitri Hospital for treatment.
Lama is married to Purna Putwar. Putwar said, they decided to abort as they did not want to have children until being financially strong.
He said, they decided to abort at the local pharmacy as the service in other places was expensive. He was trying to abort at Rs 2500.
Abortion is legal in Nepal, but can be practised by certain licensed health workers at licensed health facilities only. nepalnews.com
