The Chure-Bhawar Region Unity Society called off its indefinite bandh (general strike) in the Chure belt on Saturday.
The society that had been observing bandh in the Chure region from Wednesday withdrew its protest programmes accepting the government’s invitation for talks. Chief district officer of Sarlahi had handed over the government’s letter to Society’s representatives earlier today.
The Society, which has been demanding federal autonomy and right to self-determination, said it was positive about resolving the problems through dialogue.
The bandh had hit normal life in districts like Dhanusha, Udaypur, Rautahat, Bara, Sarlahi and Mahottari. Businesses, transport service and educational institutions were closed down due to the bandh. Hundreds of passenger buses were stranded at different places along the East-West Highway.
Reports said life has returned to normal in these districts following the Society’s announcement to end the indefinite general strike.
