Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan today informed the parliament about the decisions of the 14th summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) held in New Delhi April 3-4.
Addressing Sunday’s sitting of the Interim Legislative Parliament, Pradhan said the summit decided to establish a SAARC University in New Delhi, SAARC Food Bank and SAARC Development Fund. The amount of the fund would be around US$ 3 million.
She also mentioned that top leaders of the eight member countries had also agreed to include China, South Korea and Japan as new members of the regional body from next summit to be held in Male. Along with the US and European Union, the three countries participated in the 14th SAARC summit as observers.
The ended by adopting 30-point declaration that included joint efforts for poverty reduction, fight against terror, building people-to-people relations and commitments to implement the past decisions.
