At a time when Maoist leaders are seeking apology for carrying weapon in the Singha Durbar premises, Maoists combatants of the Bishalkumar Memorial Brigade under the second division of the Maoists, entered Gaighat bazaar, district headquarter of Udaypur district with sophisticated weapons including AK-47 rifle on Thursday.
They entered Gaighat bazaar in for the first time after signing the comprehensive peace agreement (CPA). The Maoist combatants were carrying AK-47, SLR, Insas and Short Machine Gun (SMG) with them.
However they returned back to the camp after spending half an hour at the bazaar, reports Nepal Samacharpatra Daily.
The CPA prohibits such acts. District based human rights organisations expressed reservation over Maoist’s act of displaying arms to terrorise people.
Rights activists have urged the government and the Maoists to abide by the CPA and code of conduct signed by them.
Meanwhile, a report from Parbat said police released a Maoist cadre who was arrested with arms following pressure from the Maoists.
Member of the Maoist’s People’s Liberation Army Him Lal Puri was arrested with a gun and two SLR bullets but was later released following pressure from Maoists.
Local people captured Puri along with the weapon and handed him over to the police, but Maoists pressurised police to release him as he was registered by the United Nations team. nepalnews.com pb Mar 02 07
