MJF postpones strike for three days

Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), which is carrying out agitation in Terai region, postponed its protest programmes for three days from Saturday in view of the Holi festival.

Issuing a press statement Friday, the MJF said it had decided to postpone the Chhakajam and other protest programmes for three days. The MJF, however, said that it would continue the strike at customs points.

The statement signed by MJF chairman, Upendra Yadav, also said the general strike and other protest programmes would resume from Tuesday until the demands of the forum are fulfilled.

The Forum has been organizing violent protest programmes in terai region demanding federal structure of the state, establishment of autonomous regions with rights to self decision, proportional electoral system and participation of all Madhesi, Indigenous Nationalities in all mechanism of the state.

The MJF decided to continue its strike even after the government agreed to amend the constitution to add electoral constituencies in terai region and to go for federal structure of the state.

The MJF called transport strike and customs office bandh from February 26 till March 5.
