Nepalese Americas Council (NAC), an umbrella organisation of various Nepali organisations in North America and Association of Nepali Teraian of America (ANTA) have welcomed the formation of interim government in Nepal.
However the two organisations have expressed concern over the delay by the Nepal government and the agitating groups of Madheshis, Janjatis, Dalits and others to negotiate and agree to solutions.
“We appeal to all stakeholders in Nepali politics to adopt immediate measures to resolve the outstanding differences through dialogue and compromise,” a joint press release issued by the organisations said.
NAC and ANTA urged the Nepal Government to take urgent measures to meet the genuine demands of the agitating groups and also to provide the disadvantaged groups fair representation in all organs of the state.
The organisations have urged the Parliament to pass anti-discriminatory laws and create independent commission to investigate cases of discrimination against any ethnic groups in employment and any other opportunities.
NAC and ANTA has also called on the government to form an impartial and inclusive commission to probe various incidents in the Terai over the last few months, including the recent massacre in Gaur, and punish those found guilty as per the law.
“We also appeal to both the Maoists and the MPF to restrain their cadres from engaging in confrontation, and damaging any public and private properties,” the statement further added.
