As people are facing hardships due to violent protests organised by various groups, a organisation, Social Organisation for Liberal Volunteers Engagement (SOLVE) Nepal, has came up with 198 ways to hold peaceful demonstrations.
SOLVE accumulated the techniques by interviewing and interacting with demonstrators, politicians and students in a month-long campaign.
The techniques include use of various masks, protesting through songs, use of musical instruments to draw target groups’ attention, among others.
Speaking at a press conference, Mohan Gautam, president of SOLVE said, “The protest programmes organised in the past were destructive, not merely in terms of life and property, but also in terms of social structure. We organised the campaign to make protest programmes less destructive.”
Gautam added that the student leaders have made a commitment that they would formulate a code of conduct for staging protests, provided that the authorities concerned listen to them.
SOLVE presented the results of the campaign to Speaker Subash Nembang on Tuesday.
