Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has directed Minister for Physical Planning and Works Gopal Man Shrestha to resolve the issue with the Workers of the Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC) a fter they warned of cutting water supplies to Singhdurbar, among other places.
During his meeting with the representatives of the United Struggle Committee of NWSC Employees’ Organization and NWSC Employees’ Association this morning PM Koirala directed Minister Shrestha to set up a committee today itself to investigate the demands of the agitating NWSC staffers.
Employees of NWSC have been organising strike after the recently dissolved parliament passed the NWSC (Third Amendment) Act allowing the handing over of Kathmandu Valley’s water supply management to a private foreign company on contract. They have demanded immediate withdrawal of the efforts towards privatisation of NWSC’s water distribution network.
The agitating NWSC workers, who had disrupted the water supply to Singhadurbar and the Ministers’ quarters protesting the parliament’s move to pass the bill, resumed the water supply from today.
The United Struggle Committee, however, has said that it would continue with the sit-in programme and lock-ups of NWSC offices around the country till their demands are met.
